Lighting questions.. Considering LED over hps/mh combo

LED is good for veg and flower and fat dense buds along with HPS... for veg I'd say use LED and some MH and for flowering use HPS and LED

I suggest you go to the LED section and see what some of the guys are doing there. 600w HPS is a good size for your grow area 4x4. I just bought an area 51 LED ($500.00) and it covers a 2x3 area and is a replacement for my 400 HPS. Guys who are getting results comparable to a 600 in an area like yours are running (2) LED. So the upfront cost is going to be much more. LED is nice as it will run less than half the power, way less heat, less fans, less noise. Also take into account with HPS you need a new bulb each year so factor that in. If you have experience and think you are going to grow for a while and get into the hobby it is worth the investment. If your just getting going maybe take the cheaper upfront cost route. A lot of people get into this hobby get a couple grows in maybe not as successful as they had hoped and end up selling all their gear and not growing anymore.
So with two high wattage leds I would have good yield compared to hps/mh? Also I wouldn't need to run as many output fans for cooling with the lights with led versus hps/mh? Sorry I'm just dedicated to grow good eventually so I'll probably go with led. I just need to figure the whole led movement now.

Yep, check out the Dawgs Journal..... https://www.rollitup.org/led-other-lighting/787785-dawgs-600-watt-sgs-160-a.html

He is running two of Area 51 SGS 160 lights (same one I bought). They have both veg mode (120w) and flower (full spectrum) mode (155w).... http://area51lighting.com

So if you ran (2) of these lights ($1,000.00) your using 240w (veg) or 310w (flower). So your saving half the watts in electric just on the light. I would still recommend an inline fan and carbon scrubber to circulate and scrub air. I run mine on half power now if that and my temps are 2-3 degrees above ambient temps.

But do some reading in the LED section, right now they are still on the expensive side but technology has come around to where they are producing and guys are getting solid grows with them. Maybe not there for commercial growers but for smaller setups like ours its a good way to go. A lot of people buying the cheaper LEDs from China off ebay are having issues with durability so be careful if you decide to go that route.

Thank you so much! I still plan. To run the exhaust carbon scrubber as well as an intake. I was just curious if I'd have to run a separate exhaust/intake specifically for the led like I would mh/hps..

Also with the intake to the box could I just vent that and let the exhaust carbon fan pull air through passively or should I install an intake fan as well?

the are the best affordable light with 3 yr warrenty. if you are rich buy the area 51. but im buying the lg-led mars II in april or may. you email them and they will skpe with you so you can order yours with the lights you want. get 1 smaller one for veg with white/blue only. then get 1-2 for bloom only they are 5 watt dioodes that run about 70% so they last like 10 years but they put out around 3 watts each diode and your plants will love them.

So how does the area51 compare price wise? I can just contact area51 and ask them to make two custom led panels for bloom and one custom for veg? There's no specific information I'll have to tell them? Thank you

edit: I guess just one of each since that's what you suggested in the other thread? I'm still trying to find this damn star for rep lol

Also I noticed area51 has the new model, however it only offers in a white spectrum.. The lgled would be able to give the blues and reds I need.. What's your opinion on this?

you can buy 3 lgled for the price of 1 area 51 panel. the yeilds are the same. go with lg-led.

There is a reason why people stick to a select handful of LED manufacturers, this being one specific reason.
