This story might be lame to you guys but I think it relates (kind of).

A couple years ago, my family had some nice lychee that was ready to be picked. The tree is fuckin huge and can be seen from the street. Well, one day I was smoking outside, about 20 feet from the tree. Four guys, probably 17-18 were walking by my house and I could hear them say "Ay, let's go grab some lychee." So I figure they were gonna walk up to the door and ask, but they start climbing up the wall towards the tree.

I'm like "WTF are they just gonna take my fucking lychee?" There are lots of thieves around here, druggies mostly. They couldn't see me from where I was sitting (tall grass) and I was contemplating what to do. Do I let them take it? Confront them? They were bigger than me (I'm a little guy lol). So I just grabbed a piece of rusted pipe and from the cover of the grass I just yelled "What the fuck are you doing back here! Get the fuck outta here!"

They scattered like roaches when the lights come on. I was so fucking relieved. Things could have gone way differently. I could have been mobbed, I could have killed one of them with a pipe. We can all go around saying what we WOULD HAVE done in the OP but being in a real-life scenario is very different. Your blood is pumping, adrenaline is coursing through your veins. You might make a mistake. Fact of the matter is Mr. Cheng is dead and the homeowner might go to jail. We all are responsible for our actions.

And in case you think I'm some 40 year old scared of teens, I was 18 at the time. And I'm still the same size so I'd probably still be sitting in the grass yelling with my "scary" voice lol.

No Top Shot here. Just effective techniques. Could i shoot a marble spinning on a ferris wheel with a slingshot at 300 yards? No. Hit a silhouette at 30 yards? Damn near every time.
With a rifle I could dot you eye at 100 yards with Iron Sights
With a pistol
I can barely hit a paper plate at 10 feet

So is it fair to say youve actually shot someone then? Or are you just talk?
Nope Thats Squirrels
If you aim between the shoulder and the head
left or right you are going to get a piece of chest or a peice of head. if your right on goes thru the neck

Sweden, with the lowest gun crime rate in the world, requires every adult citizen to have a fully automatic rifle, and ammo, in their home. Some kind of national defense thing.
they may wanna rethink that after recent incidents eh?
Should've been required sidearms. Then dude would've likely been stopped earlier imo.
.
Why? 1 out of how many did this?

So when you say you "usually shoot for the shoulder" you're talking hypothetically then...alot of tough talk on here, noone with any actual blood on their hands...typical.

Who is talking tough? I'm the one advocating staying in the house. Try reading. Its fundamental

Ok I'm not saying I agree with someone stealing someone elses plants, but come on thats all they are, fucking plants! Sure you can get a lot of money tied up into them, but dude come on.

My dad says when he was in high school back in the 70s him and his friends would drive around standing in the back of a pickup down in San Deigo where he lived looking over people's fences for pot plants. They'd come back in the night and take them. Pretty fucked up, yeah I know but hey, they were kids and we all know kids do dumb things. Is that worth getting shot and killed? Fuck no! Not saying this was the same scenerio, didn't read that far before getting pissed off.

This is the type of shit thats gonna start total anarchy when they come to take mine and people like me's guns. I'm sure there is a few legitimate gun owners on here, who still believe that we have the right to bare arms, that will agree with me.

I am all about home defense and I own several guns, but I don't want to kill anyone. If someone was breaking into my house I'd just soon beat the fuck out of them then kill them. Believe me though by god, if it got down to him or me, your damn right I wouldn't hesitate.

For some, not i, their plants are their income or at very least (i) allow their income to support them but cannot afford to go buy meds. So is cash, cars, possessions in the home, etc not worthy of being defended?

You cash a paycheck and turn around to meet a man with a gun. Do you just hand it over even if you have the means to stop it? That's food out of your family's mouth, clothes off their back, roof not over their heads. i see both sides.

i think most of you are missing the point...this guy cheng deserved to be beaten..not killed...the goal is to protect plants without killing anyone

Shit the guy could've gone to prison for trying to steal Cannabis Plants...THAT would've been a real game-changer!

Nothing in any of the news reports say anything about the homeowner growing cannabis for income. For one, he would be in jail for that alone for drug trafficking. This story keeps getting trumped up and people are making wild assumptions and throwing out crazy theories. The fact is, a lone unarmed man tried to pull a weed from someone's backyard and was beaten and then shot to death for it. Everything else is pure fiction.

Know whats trumped up? Your assumption that the perp was beaten before he was shot. For all you know he hurt himself getting over the wall, was in a fight before attempting the burglary, was in a car crash etc etc etc. NO WHERE in the story does it say the perp was beaten, all it says is that the perp had blunt force trauma to his upper torso. No idication of what or who caused it.

How does "getting over a wall" equate to blunt force trauma?

Sacramento police said the shooting happened early Thursday when residents on Morey Avenue confronted a 23-year-old man. When officers arrived, they found a deceased male with gunshot wounds and upper body trauma in the home’s back yard.

According to the coroner's office the man was 29-year-old Vue Cheng.

The residents, a man in his 20s and a woman in her 40s, were questioned but not arrested.

Former federal prosecutor McGregor Scott says he expects the D.A. to conduct a complete review of the case, looking at every factor leading up to the gunfire.

Scott says, according to California law, only reasonable force can be used to protect a homeowner’s possessions. Reasonable force would not include deadly force, he said.

However, Scott told KCRA 3 News that deadly force can be used in the event of a home break in if residents fear for their lives. Or in a back yard confrontation with an intruder, he said, deadly force could be used in self-defense.

Scott said the unidentified residents could possibly face a homicide charge if investigators determine the would-be thief was not armed or did not charge at or threaten the pair.

Sounds like a justified shooting until its proven that he was shot in the back or that he was not threatening or moving toward them.
