My first grow ever

I just purchased a 430watt HPS with air cooled reflector for $170. The guy also threw in some 46watt CFLs. He said he had a heavy duty time but this guy is clueless and it was really just a lamp time. He tried testing it today and blew a fuse. HAHA He also vegged under and HPS. I guess it worked but what a waste of electricity! Anyways, my new grow room is under construction and is why I havent been posting very much lately. It is taking forever because I had to dig out a 6 by 5 area a 1 and 1/2 deep in my crawl spaces to build it. With some hard work it should be done tomorrow or thursday! I will have more pictues then (grow room and how I built it, the new HPS, and the new clones which just started rooting!)

So, as I said yesterday here are the pictures. The first one is the result of 3 days hard work. I had to dig out a 5' by 6' area 1.5' deep. It was TERRIBLE. I don't recommend anyone to do it. It make it more difficult it was in my craw space so had to fill up a 5 gallon bucket with the dirt and haul it to my back yard where i built a flower bed (not the special kind). I am in the process of framing in that space to be my flower room. When i am done it will be a 5x6x4.5 foot room. In it will go a 430w hps with a Phillips Son Agro bulb putting out 53000 lumens. I 400w is more common but I got the ballast 2 bulb (phillips), CFLs, and an air coolable reflector for $170 so I had to jump on it.

The second pictures shows my box which my girls are busting out of. They keep growing into the fans and getting chopped up. The HPS is coming at a much needed time seeing as how I am only 1 week into flowering!

The third and fourth are of my cloner. The clipping have been in there for 6 days. I started to see some roots on the 5th day but they finally started to do something today.

Looks great bro! sorry I wasn't there to help you did that out. How long until you thing you have the room built and the hps up and running?

So I got everything up and running today (electrical wise). The flower room is 90% complete though! I am keeping this from my roommate and hence the reason this is in my crawl space (well and for space reasons) so I have to pick times to work down there or he will get suspicious. Today he came home early and surprised me so he almost found out cause I crawled out of my crawl space as he was going to open in. I don't think he had a clue what I was doing but he said he heard some loud bangs and wondered what it was. I just didn't say anything in response! haha Oh well, hopefully he doesn't know. So I promise to have pics up tomorrow showing the completed flower room and the girl's new home! I hope to get a couple oz off this grow. Hard to believe i just started growing a month and 1/2 ago and already have 3 flowering ladies with a 430w HPS. NEVER thought I would be this into it.

So it is finally finished! It took what seemed like forever for me but I did it. I basically dug a hole in my craw space, framed the room with pressure treated 2*4s and lined it with polly. I installed a 6inch fan (couldn't find a 4 inch) and used it to take the heat from my reflector. I had a problem with heat (around 90 degrees) until I put in a small fan on the floor of the room to circulate air. Now the temp stays around 85. Amazing how little things like that really make a difference.

Pic 1: Shows the space I stared with.
Pic 2: Shows the what I did with the space to make my new flower room!
Pic 3: The box I used to veg for 3 weeks. They quickly outgrew that!
Pic 4: The girls in their new environment
Pic 5: The reflector hooked up to the duct
Pic 6: Shows the fan on the other end of the duct
Pic 7: 450 watt ballast
Pic 8: Just a pic to give you a prospective on how big the girls are
Pic 9: The roots in my DWC 8 days after taking clippings

Today I also gave them their first flowering nutes! I started with 1/2 strength. If they respond well, I will go to full strenght next time! They are a week and 1/2 into flowering and I cant wait to see what happens!:weed:

Hell yeah, bro that's what I'm talking about, now just get those temps down because those girls look a little heat stressed.

No sign of flowering yet. I am hoping the HPS will make that happen soon though. Also, I don't think its heat stress, the ladies just haven't been watered in 4 days and are bone dry. Working so hard to get this flower room ready, I kind of neglected them :(. They have only been in that hot box for half a day where the temps were around 88 or 90. Like i said earlier, I got it down to about 84 or 85 degrees so hopefully that will do the trick. I also forgot to mention that i transplanted them into 2.5 gallon buckets out of the 1 gallon bags. The roots held together all the soil in the bags when I took them out so I am sure they will enjoy the new places to roam. (YES, THC, I did break up the roots when transplanting

agreed, you should have also broken up that soil with the roots, transplanting must!
I am not that much of a noob! :finger: hahaha i love that smiley! I that is just general knowledge for gardening and YES I did do that.

just remember, marijuana photosynthesizes best @ around 78 degrees.

Thanks Sub, I know I needed to get the temp down but didn't have much else to do. I think the room had been sitting with stagnant air all day and is why it was sooo hot in there. After a full day with both fans going, the room is now staying around 80 degrees!

After the watering and new temperature, the ladies perked right up! Looks like they LOVE the new environment. The exploded overnight!

THC...after you told me what to look for, it is obvious they they are starting to flower. On just about every node on the top of the plant I can see white hairs like the one shown in the attachment. I also to another picture of the plants overall so y'all could see the health of the plants even though the pics don't do it justice. The HPS messes with the color on my camera and everything comes out very dark. Knowing that, let me know what you guys think. They seemed to have grown about 1/2 an inch over the past day!

Very nice my friend! Especially for the conditions you are working in... you should be smoking your own homegrown by Halloween

Thanks Boulderheads! I indeed hope to have a nice little harvest by then. I am also looking to atleast double the amount I for my next grow. I have 6 clones rooting nicely and with the help of THC, I will have a mother plant for Hindu Kush next week! Thanks for checking it out!:weed:
