I did not try just soaking the seed before putting in soil, I did the paper towel method first. I did put each seed in individual pots and wrapped them with saran wrap. Didn't work for me. I dont know if it's the paper towel, been reading that paper towels are treated with chemicals. Or that I missed my window and leave them germinating too long. I also wonder if they're being exposed to the light too long when I'm transferring the seeds from the paper towel to the soil. I dug the seeds up after almost two weeks and they looked exactly the same as when I planted them. Squeezed the seed and the tap root squished out, it just looked like goop.
The neat thing about the rapid rooter plugs is you can throw them right on top of the soil. So I'm really hoping this works because it was simple. But because ot was simple I have my doubts
I used to germinate seeds in paper towels as well, the problem with this is that they are disturbed when you move them from the towels the medium or root substrate. Mechanical disturbance of something so delicate and small that is alive is a bad thing and lowers your success rate. Try soaking them in water for twelve hours and then transferring them directly to 18oz solo cups.. Make sure the medium has ample aeration, water it until theres a good runoff and it's completely saturated, then take a pen or pencil and poke a hole an eight to a quarter inch in depth but no deeper! Cover the seed if you wish and place it under your light and don't water unless the soil dries out and crusts over, over watering can cause damping off. Water again once they emerge.
