Two people can have stinky grow rooms for completely different reasons. Plant respiration gives off gas (O2 in the day and CO2 at night) and moisture,.. and these can carry smells from the nutes,.. or just the genetics can be stinky.
it's been my experience, with certain genetics, that males smell differently than females and I've noticed it's because they mature slightly faster (to be the first to pollinate the females). For males maturing quickly is partially survival of the fittest. That may mean the male smells different (more pungent) from females only because it's in a different stage, or a week ahead in maturing (beginning to flower).
I noticed that with white widow recently. Although there were also larger pre-flowers on the males, and I suspected them of being male,.. so it might have been in my head. If I'd let them go, they would have started spitting pollen before the females showed pistils.
