New CFL grow using Miracle-Gro African Violet Potting Mix in 6" pots

umm just your title says---I will kill them with Love & Nutes! African violet soil ? Miracle grow? Who, son hold on a minute. You dont bring a baby home and feed it Filet Mignon----Hell, it needs to get strong before you start giving it roids/ start with a decent soil if ammending it makes you a bit nervous. If not plenty of recipes on the net for soil ammendments or how to make your own soil. I have a soil I ammended that I have been using and the PH sticks at 6 there about with city 8. ph water. Plus the same strain of bean I used beans to race Pole beans to see the soil---well I got this bean to go 3 times taller in half the time of MG's super soil feeds 3 months. Point is soil is important yet over nuting is worse. So getting acid soil for violets are you going to give a Mg overdose because you run your soil to low in ph from the start becuz you aint growing berries or violets. Go slow and improve with notes and one at a time adjustments and note them with 24. 36 hr wait times. As a matter of fact the seedling or clone you get does not need all that nutes out front. see seedling starter and the nute content.

yeah sorry, im not using that african violet mix, never got it, this what im using. just plain black soil with a little perlite mixed in, and my own nute mix.

Good looking plant man! how many bulbs are you using? looks like some big fan leaves, mine doesn't have many big ones at all, just a bunch of little ones. im in the first week of flower and mine doesn't smell much at all, just a plant smell. My living room smells more than the room the plant is in though lol. Im defiantly subscribed! Keep her growin!

no, i dont own them, thats the kennel i worked for as an asst. trainer before i got hurt. when i get better (i can walk again w/o crutches) i will go back to work there. man, that was so awesome, im so glad i went out there. heres a pic of his speedo's that remedy just ran in. the lead out took it off and dropped it on the ground to put his blue winners jacket on, so i snatchted it up, LoL. man, what a night!! that win pays $35,000 to the owner, who was there. and louis came in 3rd. and yes, remy won this same race last year.

Congrats on the race!!!

For such a ghetto start you got it all going on now man! Shit, if thats bag seed I hope one day I can get my Kush that nice after 44 days on floros. But not using the MG was probably a blessing. But at any rate you got a GREEN thumb! That girl you got looks mighty happy. Shes is spoiled though. She has that box all to herself. And what many here have failed to mention is that you did this grow when you were off work injured. So you gave them love all day. gave them attention. gave them nurturing (human not chemical) and that ALWAYS makes the difference. But when you get your seeds i would not change a thing! keep going with what you do, cuz your doing it right.

Few questions
1) You might want to change your avatar to that Nascar you designed on pg 3 cuz its the shizzle and it says it all for the getto group.
2) Could you go over when you started your ties (LST), how you tie them and the rotation (or order) that you did them in for new bean.
3) Your getto cool box was a good idea and could still work if needed when you have your new grow and summer is in full tilt in Fla. Mine is like yours. I started with a kitty liter jug. But it melted too fast. So first (instead of freezer pacs) I switched to a sold freeze block that fit right into the jug. It lasted 5 hours instead of the 2 hours with freezer pacs. Then I switched over to a wallymart cooler with tight lid (3x3) and froze sold a block of water that fit right inside the cooler. It had the same intake and exhaust components into my grow box as your first kitty liter jug with almost the same pvc fittings and everything. Now it lasts the entire 12 hours of my flower stage lighting schedule. I moved stuff over to the side in my freezer (above fridge) and now its able to hold a tub just the right size to freeze the block and will freeze each block over night and be ready for the next day's light schedule.

thanks stick, ok i changed the avatar back, LoL, i like that 1 better anyways. oh yeah, im not changing a thing when i do the next grow, this all works too good. as far as the lst, i started that on day 32 when i broke the first main branch off, then put a paint stick under the 2nd main branch and that worked out great, didnt put stain on the node. then last night, i said what the hell and tied the other 5 branches down. i just slowly pulled them down and tied the string loosely around each branch, worked out great.

man thats so cool about the kitty litter ac unit, it worked so well in my mind, LoL. thanks for the tip, i just have it laying in the corner now as i have the temps under control. pics are day 31 before lst, day 32 after lst, all 5 branches tied down, which is day44.

thats the only pic i have left, i cut the jug just below the top ridge so it slips back over itself. i put a piece of pvc pipe in the top side for air intake and the pipe going to the box fit over the lid just right, which lead to an 80mm intake fan and in to the box. i think if you look back to a few pages in of the thread, theres more pics, later i had mounted a fan right on the kitty litter jug. helped for a few degrees, but the ice packs only lasted a couple hours. the pics are on page 5 and 6.

Thank you for that info. if you don't mind i am going to steal that LST method and use it for my next grow (where your branch broke i will just take a clone). I also like your Fimming style and timing. I hope you don't mind if I use both.:clap::peace:Stick

PS I will post pictures of the walmart cool box with fixtures attached to my grow box in the morning when i can get a good picture. I got no plants there yet just testing my temps right now and trying to get a reputable seed bank to get beans to my mailbox.

hell yeah, im honored, if you look back at the beginning, i started with hydro, that didnt work out to well, LoL. so, on the advice of prebs, i went with soil, he started the ghetto growers thread. i topped new bean at 8 days! i did it just like in the pic. and yes, i wish i would have kept that broken branch for clones.

and sorry audi, i missed that eariler, im using 6 bulbs, 5 2700k 23 watts, and 1 6500k 23 watts

re: the 2700k bulbs: i have found them available in 42 watt sizes. they are larger but throw off a lot more lumens. my girls seem to love them. have you tried using the 42 watt bulbs?

no i havent, i would like to, but im worried about the heat in such a small grow box. its been hard enough with just the 6 23 watters. was looking at these 68 watt bulbs at home depot, $15 each. maybe before i start the next grow???

the other day i said that it was 3 weeks of flowering, i was wrong, went back and checked my notes and it should have said 4 weeks of flowering. today new bean is 45 days old and i went to 12/12 at 15 days, so its now been 30 days of flowering, LoL. anyways, heres a couple of pics.

man thats a cool lil set up .......i had made a light hook up to hit the sides of my plants an all my stuff i got from a thrift store except the mylar .....

i got
2-100watt cfl 5500k
1-150watt cfl 6500k
1-shop light t-8s that has 2-32 watt daytime bright
its a cool room i just need a lil help wit the splitin it 2
one side veg one flower
right now i got 7 plants an just got rid of powdery mildew in one day wowie wow!!lol
my room stays at 70-79 degrees
an humidity at 35-50
i wil get some more recent pics those are a week old before my meldew
any suggestions???

hey ron, thanks, dam, mildew??? that sucks, never had that problem. is that a grow box, or a grow room? if its a room, i would get a small veg cabinet and then just flower in the room.
