Normal Sativa Stretch???

it's must be your genetic - type pf light used - nothing seems to be wrong - except the cultivator - let it grow and it will show (some times cultivators get "caught-up" with their plant thinking something might be wrong and not looking normal (what ever that is) JUST sit back a watch the "magic" happen _Peace

I dont understand your logic. If you want a small and stout plant you have to grow in a controlled environment indoors. Outdoor plants have longer internodes and overall size to be able to catch as much sun as possible.

You want a strong, tall and bushy plant outdoor, wishing for a small plant outdoor is a little weird IMO. Like the complete opposite to what most people strive for.

^^^ agree, that is an awesome looking plant, but they do get pretty huge outdoors. If you don't want an 8 ft plant then don't start it in March... It's definitely not too late to start over from seed, but that is a badass plant and would be a shame to get rid of it imo

Contrarian? Last year I grew two plants outside (check my posts). They were 5' tall and 5' in diameter and produced 2lbs, 14 oz of cured and dried bud. At this stage, neither of those plants looked anything like this year's.

Thanks weedstoner420. I certainly did start too early, lesson learned...But I devised a plan. I just pounded in 8' stakes to 5'. I'm going to do two levels of trellis netting. One at 3' and one again around 5'. I'm going top again when the top and side branches get 4 nodes. I don't care how big around it gets, I just have to keep it below the neighbors visibility, or about 6'. Their gardener or teenage kids will certainly steal them. They will likely smell them, but out of sight out of mind.

It looks like last year you had them in small pots well into June (see pic) because of some workers at your house. This year you have them in the ground in April/May. That and/or different pheno can change a plants look even in the same environment actually. I have had two outdoor plants side by side and one was a Xmas tree and the other a bush. Who knew?

Ooof-da, Thanks for pulling from that post. I didn't realize I started that late last year. I thought it was closer to the end of April. Obviously it is the shorter days and cooler weather causing this year's girls to stretch. I have two feminized Tropical Cookies seeds left over. I think I'll run them on the side in 2 gl just in case. I can give them to my sister if I don't need them.

Thanks for the compliment on my garden. Here are a couple pics. The stakes are in for my trellis netting. I'll tame these party girls.

If you are worried about plant size try FIM-ing them. Or topping but personally I prefer to FIM. They may go larger than other years cause you have them in the ground early. The airy structure you are seeing may well be something you wish for in September lol

Crossed the 3' mark without much in the way of new nodes. The nights have been 10 degrees below normal for mid-May. We should be mid to high 50s at night. Last night was 45 degrees. That's what's causing the stretching.

I'm going to top again as soon as a couple new nodes develop. Unfortunately, the nodes are already staggered. I'm not sure topping will do much good.

You could just snap it were you whant hight to stop, but not complete break the snaped part off. Cant remember what its called but many people do that to control hight.Oh yeah called super crop, look it up it should help in your situation and will be a useful skill to have for the future grows you do. Basically completely bend just below the hight you want without breaking it off. Or just tie the top down and steak it to the side wich will also control hight .
