Northern Lights Auto (1st Grow)

I learned a lot this first grow and wanted to thank everyone for the help. My Northern Lights Auto currently at 70 days.

1. Lighting - Lighting should be where you spend the majority of the money for your setup. If you cheap out on lighting you will regret it and will spend more to fix your mistake then just shelling out the additional money from the beginning. Do research and do not trust customer reviews. I am buying a new light for the next grow, still doing some research but I think a QB LED will be my best bet. I cannot have anything that produces a lot of heat and need something dimmable to ensure I don't burn the tops of my plants when I can't move the light any higher. Currently my plan is to use 3 gallon fabric pots and to Top and LST. Once the plant is about 12" tall I will flip to flower and do my best to keep her under 24" tall. This will only give me about 10" between the tops of the plants and the light but it seems manageable.
2. Space - How many plants can you actually grow? I have a small tent 20"x20"x48" and I started two plants at the same time (Stupid!). I ended up having to toss one of the plants because it was overcrowded and was just not developing. I tried to take it outside to have it continue growing however the change in environments caused all of the pistols to turn brown and the buds stopped developing, what a waste. Training is also extremely important if you do not have much space. As you can see my plant is kind of all over the place. My next grow will be photos which should give me a lot more options when it comes to growing in a small area.
3. Research vs. Doing - While everyone can benefit from reading forums and watching YouTube videos there is just no substitute for hands on experience. Identifying issues, Training, Nutrients, and even watering the right amount really requires that you pay attention to your plants and how they respond to what you do.
4. Being Prepared - As you can see some of my leaves show a calcium deficiency. I went on a little vacation for 3 days, when I left everything looked great but when I got home the damage had been done. I removed most of the very damaged leaves and started to use nutrients which completely fixed the problem (No new damage and the other leaves have remained healthy). I wish I had been more prepared to prevent this from happening but I definitely will be next time.

Thanks again to everyone who spent time talking me through some of the early issues that I experienced. I am extremely grateful and cannot wait to start my Bison Breath grow. I will definitely be doing a grow journal for my second grow. I hope everyone has a great day!

Nice looking plant, nice buds too.
I have the same size tent. I topped at 8” and just started her under the scrog. Just curious to know what was the actual wattage of your light? I’m using a Bestva 600w (132 actual w) led.

I’m looking for a new light, mine is a crappy one (32w) from Home Depot.
How’s the bestva workin for you? Looks like a perfect light for me..
I was looking at the ms ts1000 but I think it’ll be to hot for my grow space.

I will have to double check. My fist light is a blurple light from Ebay and then I got a 50 Watt COB Full Spectrum Light that I used to supplement the crappy blurple one that I should have never bought. I want to say it said 150 Watts from the wall but I have some serious doubts about that claim. I will definitely check and let you know though.

It works great for my little tent, really bright light.
Here’s a link to a different one I was liking. It’s got a timer and veg and flower switches

I am actually strongly considering the TS1000 too or may just get a QB kit. I am a little concerned with the heat from the TS1000 but I saw you can move the driver to the outside of the tent and with decent air flow I think it would be fine. If I end up going with the TS1000 I will definitely let you know.

That looks pretty good. I also have seen that Viparspectra has a light that is dimmable with a timer for around 80$ I think. I should also mention that I am not saying all blurple lights are crap but the cheap one that I bought is for sure.

Okay so I double checked and it says 100 Watts from the wall. It is a Castnoo 1000w Led Grow Light. It was cheap and I did zero research but so far my results are pretty good at least with both lights. My next grow I definitely am upgrading the lighting though.

Yes that would be a good light too, I’d worry it would be to hot in the little tent though. Maybe having good air flow would keep it cooled down.

Yea, that is my main concern as well.
My 132w makes more heat than I thought it would, it’s got two built in fans but still hot. I have a fan blowing in air from the top vent sleeve to help keep it cooler. The tent will be in the upper 80’s sometimes even 90 when it’s a warm day out.

Luckily my tent is in my bedroom and the wife likes it to be cold so the room itself is generally like 70 degrees which definitely will help keep the tent cool. The lights that I am using now run pretty hot but the tent has never gone over 80. Once I pick out and order the new light I will be sure to let you know how hot the light runs and how much that affects the tent temperature. I am strongly leaning towards the TS1000 because the price is good, the reviews are good, and it looks like it would be perfect (if it doesn't heat things up to much) for a smaller tent. Fingers crossed whatever I decide works because I am super excited to try the Bison Breath. On a side note I am really hoping to get at least an ounce off the Northern Lights because if I get just one ounce it will have paid for my entire setup. We have medical marijuana but at the moment no home cultivation so an ounce of the cheapest flower is around $180 an ounce and for anything decent it is generally $320+.

I know, the dispensary’s expensive. Yeah better to grow your own medicine.
My next grow I was thinking about growing the northern lights too, that or gorilla glue.
Alright I’ll keep an eye on your thread for any updates.

The Northern Lights auto from Vision has impressed me. I ordered seeds from The Single Seed Centre and had heard a lot of mixed reviews so I did not want to place a big order and never have it arrive. They did arrive though and I have to say I am pretty stoked that it has grown so well. I think Gorilla Glue would be awesome to grow, I may need to order some GG seeds as well, I just wish I had a larger grow area so that I could grow 2-3 strains at once.

Congratulations man. Looks beautiful. I would really check out the quantum boards or cobs if your gonna upgrade. I'm really happy with the HLG boards so far. Haven't been able to compare the buds to cmh yet, but should know in a couple months. Nice job.

Thanks a lot! I have been looking at the HLG boards as well. How hot do they run? When you are done with your grow I would love to know how it compares to the CMH. Happy growing!

They run warmer than I was expecting, but less than the cmh. You could always put the drivers outside the grow room though if you wanted to keep it cooler. I have mine attached to the boards now. And I would check out the Rspec's if your thinking hlg. They have the added 660 reds.
