right so I have overwatered my young plants. Gave them too much at the start then didn't let it dry out enough. My question is will they recover?

best way I found to water is
fill a pot with your dirt, feel the weight dry? now add 1/4 the volume in water, or small run off,
feel the weight again, dont water till it feels light again. plant looks fine

With soil I found small waterings better for the plant, and also for my itchy watering can fingers! I got a small 1 litre watering can and just gave them a little tickle when I had the urge. The best thing to do is to try and forget about them, I still struggle with that now a year on

So we reckon they'll be ok? They just look heavy and droopy
Sure, just don't water them until the pot feels light as said above, and don't water them that much again!(unless they're big enough to take it) You'll get the hang of it, just don't do what most people say and water them, then let them dry right out before watering them, just give them steady moisture and they'll thank you for it.

small waterings are ill. the water is there mostly to mold the organic matter so it can be broken down in order for the plant to feed.
with small waterings the soil is not ever wet fully and roots will not flourish in dry soil not being broken down this way. rain, dry, rain dry, just like outdoors. the plant actually drinks very little of what is poured into the substrate.

Here's an example. I planted 6 cracked seeds on the 1st of this month. First watering was a drench till run off. Then the seeds stuck in the promix. 2 gallon smart pots. Second watering was on the 9th. Watered each pot with about 4 cups water. No run off.
As Chem' typed above. The plants won't drink all the water I gave them. They're too small with not enough roots to drink the entire pot. The pots will dry through evaporation verses the plant using it all.
Next watering, (Week 2 in veg), will be in about 6-7 days. Third watering will probably be 5 days after the second.
When the plant has about 4 internodes and is strong enough for a drench. Ill water the pots till run off.

It'll take about three to five days plus for solid side pots to dry. The only points it can evaporate is the top and the four tiny holes in the bottom.

If you reuse those pots. Drill lots of small holes in the bottom and sit them on a rack of some kind to where air flows under the pots. It'll help with drainage and drying. If you decide to throw those turds away. Fabric pots prevent a lot of headaches.

I meant throw away the pots after you've grown the plants. You're plants will recover. It's not that big of deal. It'll just take time to dry. Fabric pots help prevent soggy soil. Use fabric pots on the next grow.
I liked airpots you should really try them out, they're best for the smaller stages. I would get the smallest 2/3 sizes maybe a big one for finishing If you like them. They help stop overwatering and help with early root development. a health root system makes a healthy plant, more roots more fruits!
