This will make Texas interesting, there are huge numbers registered and the voting rules have changed, you could see Texas go democratic, it looks like a real wildcard with the polling, the big numbers and the changes. Joe could take Texas and the dems could even pick up a senate seat. I think the signs don't look good for the GOP, looks over 10% are newly registered and the interest means trouble for Trump, so does covid.

Woodward is doing his Job, he's got one corrupt president in the bag and is helping a lot with nailing a second, he is a journalist, it is his profession and he is very good at it. His dad was a prosecutor and judge, Bob is seeking justice in his own way, Woodward has lot's of money, that is not what motivates him, though he will make a pile of cash too. Woodward is doing immense damage to Trump and prevented a closing in the polls, Bob is helping to keep the gap to big to rig.

Trump was president and everybody in the White house and republican leadership knew what Trump knew and went along, Woodward's voice would have been drowned out and he would have made no difference, the release of his book just before the election will have maximum impact. Trump is POTUS and responsible, Woodward is a private citizen and a journalistic witness to mass murder, he has no guilt in this matter. We often witness things we can do nothing about at the time, but can later, the woman who videoed George Floyd's murder was powerless to stop it, she and her phone were witnesses for us all though.

Woodward can be criticized for not informing the public about Trump but that would end his access to trump and his Administration. A reporter will find himself with no real means of documenting the truth of the administration if it reflects badly on them. You could say it would have been worth it, saving a bunch of people. But what if Trump spun the situation another way, got reelected and plunged the country into war? Which would be the greater harm? Basically Woodward was acting as a historian of sorts.

I think I would need to see how the dates Trump was reporting line up with Woodward's Trump's tapes to actually say that. After reading his book, I don't think Woodward releasing those tapes a couple days before Trump can no longer keep a lid on his lies would have made any meaningful difference.

If RBG didn't pass away, the timing of this release would have sunk Trump because all he would have had to fall back on was his racist 'law and order' trolling of the BLM protests to change the subject from the Coronavirus.

It really is all about the election, Trump has his cult believing any of the 10 positions he takes on every issue that suits them in that moment, so they would cry fake news to the recordings. Nothing gets fixed until we get a new responsible president.

did you see his interview when this question was posed? he might've well said..'i'll sell it to you'- he's known all this time..when asked to release more of the tapes..? he may be wealthy but he's still a businessman and at that level they're all in it for the money.

the fact remains he knew before all those people died and that's not lost to many of us.

I guess anything to try to shame a guy that got the goods on Trump inhumanity and blatant lies and released the recordings prior to the election so that we all could actually do something about the horrible decision making (largely due to the propaganda by the Russian military) that elected him in 2016.

We all knew Trump was full of shit as soon as that ship was landing and he didn't want to test them because it would make his numbers look bad on March 7th.


We also knew Trump was full of shit a month later when he started his 'liberate' nonsense.

Trump/McConnell will get their 3rd Supreme Court judge & after over 200 Federal judgeship's appontend by Trump, all of which depended on their Conservative attitude's, anyone that believes in majority rule is fucked for the next 30+ years.
Trump, no matter what happens on November 3rd has forever changed the character/direction of this once great Nation.
He has effectively destoyed us.

Why the hate? I'm giving you that trump personally is responsible for 200k deaths or what not, as op implied. For the purpose of my question, I am agreeing with that.

If trump were secretly rounding up his enemies and executing them and told a journalist about it 8 months ago, should that not be breaking news morally speaking if it's simply a matter of life and death count as to save as many as possible ahora?

What I am hearing you and others say is that it is morally acceptable for the journalist to let the bodies pile up until a book deal is complete and published.

Would it be equally morally acceptable to wait a little longer still for a very profitable documentary film as well?

I don't agree, he has accelerated history, every struggle has these periods, the more intense the struggle the more far reaching the change. I think Donald is leading the republicans over a cliff and screaming on fire into the abyss, new laws and reforms are coming and the SCOTUS will be expanded if required as can the lower courts, word is they are short by lots of seats. I think the GOP could lose so badly federally and in the states that constitutional change might be possible by 2022. If the democrats win enough senate seats they can investigate and impeach Kavanagh for perjury, in fact impeachment is a political act, not a legal one and they could impeach other conservative justices too. The democrats will have total power for a decade after this debacle and demographic changes will drive old Dixie down for good.

The USA has 20 years or more of catching up to do with other western democracies in terms of legal reform. H.R.-1 will remove many of the republicans advantages, but the real test will be taking FOX news off the air permanently and breaking up or regulating facebook. You must kill the information ecosystem that fuels and supports this bullshit.

Only in America, a Catholic still cannot marry the King of England by law, the Romans made their emperors Gods. Religion was a version of the "truth" and politics was religion until the rise of secular society, starting with princes who were independent of the pope in Europe, then the reformation. As civil society arose it took political power from the church by creating spheres of responsibility under the control of civil government and law.

Before there was an American revolution there was an English one in the 1600' s that made parliament supreme and the King increasingly a figurehead or symbol. The people of America did not revolt against the crown, their representive legislatures did, bodies that had been in place for decades, the idea of liberty didn't start in America, it was brought there with the enlightenment.

If you 'had' come here to actually talk about it, you would actually address what others have said in response to your posts and not just use them as a springboard to continue to troll someone that there is no reason to defend. You said journalists are morally exempt from reporting life saving information to the public in a timely manner for sundry personal reasons.
