"We grudge no man a fortune in civil life if it is honorably obtained and well used. It is not even enough that it should have been gained without doing damage to the community. We should permit it to be gained only so long as the gaining represents benefit to the community.... The really big fortune, the swollen fortune, by the mere fact of its size, acquires qualities which differentiate it in kind as well as in degree from what is possessed by men of relatively small means. Therefore, I believe in a graduated income tax on big fortunes, and … a graduated inheritance tax on big fortunes, properly safeguarded against evasion, and increasing rapidly in amount with the size of the estate."The death tax sucks, causes family farms and business' to be split up. Funny you work hard all your life and pay taxes and then when you dies they tax the stuff you already paid taxes on again and screw your descendants! Fuckin Liberal Morons

since you brought it up...The death tax Obama Reinstated will send the majority of their wealth to Washington instead of the deceaseds family.
This explains it a bit:So now we're going to start factoring in savings when it comes to considering tax codes? You brought it up, so I'm guessing you think it should be considered. I guess I should pay more than my neighbor who makes the same income I do, because I saved my money while he blew it on vacations, cocaine and hookers? Be careful, you're starting to show the ugliness of your true agenda, mame.
This is exactly why your mindset needs to be stopped in it's tracks, we KNOW where it will end up.
I'm just arguing that because the top 1% owns ~35% of all US private wealth, in terms of marketable assets because they're generally very liquid, that a 38% overall tax burden isn't far off from what it should be.Generally speaking, wealth is the value of everything a person or family owns, minus any debts. However, for purposes of studying the wealth distribution, economists define wealth in terms of marketable assets, such as real estate, stocks, and bonds, leaving aside consumer durables like cars and household items because they are not as readily converted into cash and are more valuable to their owners for use purposes than they are for resale. Once the value of all marketable assets is determined, then all debts, such as home mortgages and credit card debts, are subtracted, which yields a person's net worth. In addition, economists use the concept of financial wealth -- also referred to in this document as "non-home wealth" -- which is defined as net worth minus net equity in owner-occupied housing.
since you brought it up...
Obama repealed the 2001 law and LOWERED the tax rate and INCREASED the amount exempted. this has the result of LOWERING the EFFECTIVE RATE while DECREASING the amount that can be taxed.
under the 2001 law, which was the one effective at the time, the tax rate would've shot up to 55% (2001 levels), and only allowed an exemption of 2 million.
Obama's law left the rate at 35% while increasing the exemption level to 5million.
another conservative move by the centrist president yet the parrots ignore....
Obama is a Socialist tax and spend democrat who is also a kenyan muslimsince you brought it up...

If you are very poor then you are likely not paying income tax. If you are not paying income tax then I am likely paying for governmental services (such as your security) that you don't pay for. That means that I am carrying you. Does that mean that you are worthless as well? Shall I demand that you get a better job so that I don't have to pay your share?I'm very very poor an I don't want the Gov to tax me to give it to inefficient gov programs to help the worthless. ( witch I would never qualify for!)
I'm sure the rich feel the same.
Around here the poor farmers an ranchers died around the 30s with the depression an dust bowl.Yep. And to back that up a bit, this study shows that with an exemption level of 3.5 million only 13 family owned farms would fail to have enough liquid assets to pay the tax; At 5 Million, no family farms are put out of business.
I was given to understand that this country was built by people who profited from their own sweat. If this is true, then why has anyone any simpathy for those who may not inherit enough money? Inheritance is a method of accumulating wealth across generations and if allowed to continue results in a sort of economic feudalism. Beyond even that, the dead do not have rights. Anyone who cannot contend with inheritance taxes doesn't deserve the money he has anyway. The death tax sucks, causes family farms and business' to be split up. you completely ignore what he's saying... let me repeat ZERO FAMILY FARMS ARE AT RISK B/C OF THE ESTATE TAX.Around here the poor farmers an ranchers died around the 30s with the depression an dust bowl.
Those left compete with ADM an huge corporations.
They own thousands of acres, an incrediblely high priced machines withc makes their wealth up for grabs when they die now.
Most farmers an ranchers aren't poor. Imho
The land their pioneering ancestors passed to them will be sold for tax reasons if not hidden with proper estaste planning...
funny, most of the rich inherit or marry into their wealth (or earn it dishonestly).I'm not trying to piss you dems off.
