There are a large number of gun deaths due to Drugs being illegal and dealers having no legal recourse when deals go bad.

sad things is most murders are drug related. While i dont condone all drug use, the "War on Drugs" has led to more violence than its prevented.
There are about 5,000 gun shows per year, apparently at one of them one time in the last 10 years or more, 2 people got injured. While driving to the show, more than 8 died in vehicular crashes and 30 died from cancer caused by smoking and another 28 died from cheeseburger inhalation.
618 people died in the USA in 2009 from ACCIDENTAL firearm discharge. by comparison 28,000 died from accidental poisoning.

It all depends where you live. If it's Portland, Oregon, it's probably safer than Ireland. But somewhere like Camden, New Jersey is mother fucking scary as hell.
St Louis, Missouri; Richmond, California; and New Orleans, Louisiana have higher murder rates than Camden.

a mexican dude helped me score weed once in waterfront park, and the people he bought it from pulled a knife during the deal. dude was just like "you pullin' a knife over some marijuana? put that stupid shit away" and i laughed. then i handed them the money and they gave us the weed. the end.
i don't see that happening the same way in camden.

I've been to St. Louis. There are probably really bad parts to the city. But there's no part of Camden I'd visit. You'll get shanked there there just so a dude can get a hit of meth.
I picked those two cities, because Portland is the second safest city and Camden is the second most dangerous.

we are pretty safe here, despite having high homeless rates. we are all just generally pleasant 'round these parts and try our best to help our poor and homeless, many of whom are veterans.
our climate lends us to year round homeless people, not much we can do about it, besides be sympathetic about it.

Having handled firearms since the age of about 5 or 6, i have only experienced one accidental discharge in my life (turning 38 in 3 days). And it was because i ignored the rule of checking to make sure it wasn't loaded. My fault.

I have carried a handgun everyday for the last 20 years, I am 43 and have never had an AD.... It is all about common sense and basic safety rules!
ETA: I am sure I will shot myself shortly due to this post

Hopefully not! But i agree, it is human error/inattention that leads to ADs the vast majority of the time. SOMETIMES it is a lack of maintenance/uncorrected wear but that goes right back to inattention imo.

Don't buy a Remington, those will AD on your regardless of whether or not you pull the trigger.
I thought they just had issues with their hunting rifles... no, their shotguns do the same shit. Luckily no one was hit because of proper gun safety at all times.
The Remington shotgun also mysteriously locked the trigger upon cleaning the gun. It would be the last gun one would want for any type of shooting activity especially home defense.
As far as shotguns go, Brownings are nice. A friend of mine has one and we have gone to turkey shoots and use his gun and someone in our group will usually win and everybody else gets pissed off by the end of the day. None of our other guns hold such a good pattern.

Really? i knew about the Remington 700 but never heard anything about the 870 Wingmaster (i have the Magnum Express). Never had an issue with it but i will definitely have to do some research since i plan on taking my son dove hunting for his first time this year. Been about 15 years since i last went but we went clay shooting just last weekend and he was keeping up with me on the clays lol. He has my old H&R single shot 20 ga. but we were both shooting my 870 also.
Remington is fine, just because there have been a couple of incidents doesn't mean they all do that. have any idea how many millions upon millions of Remington rifle uses that same trigger in the 700 model? The US Army and US Marines are still using Remington 700 triggers and actions for their sniper rifles. Remington has been making that trigger for 72 years now, over a long period with millions of examples and with people adjusting trigger settings (I always do) there is bound to be accidents.
The model 870 is the most popular shotgun ever made in the world, there are more than 10 million of them out there, if they all had trigger problems you would hear of far far far more incidents than the few you do. People like the 870 because it is cost effective, slicker than snot, breaks down to the molecular level in mere seconds, easy to clean, simple in operation and extremely durable. About the only pump shotgun that was better was the Winchester model 1912.

I can't see much after 50 yards...
I use a scope when hunting and when doing benchrest shooting at 600M +. I see no need for a scope on a assault rifle when its much easier to acquire targets with iron sights.
