Toss her under the bus to take the public beating knowing that
She won't be anything more than the interim leader.
She won't be able to run for leadership now, so let her take the beating and keep their next leader out of the media and spotlight the best they can.

McKay isn't saying much and hasn't ruled it out, much like every other politician serious about making runs.
He is the one who appears to be the expected person to take the leadership though.
