Smart pots vs Air pots?

I am going to try a soil grow and was wondering if anybody has used either of these pots? Also, do you need to still line the bottom with perlite and mix with it with soil in 3 gallon pots. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

just started using airpots this week and instructions say to use potting soil or compost, no need for perlite as it always has air getting to the soil. I did it with a transplant but, from seed would be perfect.

I make my own Air pruning pots.
LOVE THEM!

Drill alot of holes in an bucket, line with garden screen.
I was convinded after seeing a airpot plant outgrow the DWC plants in a Journal on here somwhere.
Hobbes has a great thread on em, he claimes 25% increase in yield just by using em.....

Nice thread!! I have been looking into these pots and a lot of people seem too love them. Wish I could say personally they work better but haven't used them yet. I like how the smart pots are lower, but the air pots seem too have a better ways for air to get in.
And nice homemade air pots they would work!

Where is the cheapest place to buy air pots? Do you need the same size air pot as comparable to a regular soil pot?

Bought mine from Progrow. I actually did not consider them to be expensive really as it's under £2 for a 1 litre pot going up to £4.50 for a 10 litre pot. I think that a smaller pot can support a slightly bigger plant than a normal pot, but it's still important to pot up especially before going to flower.

I bought 1, 6 and 10 litre pots.

I havent tried air pots but I can tell you smart pots rock man.
I got 2.7 lbs off one plant out doors in a 10 gallon smart pot last year. grew 12 feet tall easy.
Then tried some 3 gal in the green house over the winter and flowered some short hindu kush for two months and got a couple oz's a plant at 2 feet tall. Yea, I really like those smart pots.

I just ordered 10 3.4 gal from growers-inc.com. You were right about them being cheap. It cost $89.50 and had free shipping. The one on ebay was 44 for 5 and had 14 in shipping.

Edit: There shipping calculator was fucked up. It cost 18.16 to ship. Might be a couple bucks cheaper to go with the ebay one. Depends if the shipping stays the same.

Surely the point of these pots is you can grow a tree in a 3ltr pot. So far I have found these used in mother rooms were they spend 6months in them then another 6 in 10ltr..

Has anyone grown large plants in the smaller pots to take advantage of this.

I've got some Kerala in a3 gallon equivalent air pot and she's about 3 weeks old, I'm really liking it so far. I read some threads on icmag that had some good ideas as far as watering you should do a search, I've created like a bowl in the pot similar to a water catch for a tree and once I prune and mainline I'm going to mulch to keep that soil nice and moist, it's a third full of supersoil and the rest of roots organic, I love the ease of assembly and ability to clean. Right now I water with a small container from home depot that works perfect.

Was just looking at these 2 same pots today, trying to decide which to go with. Smart vs Air pots. No one has anything bad to say about either of them, so I guess I can't go wrong with whatever I decide to get.
