SoG Grow Room Discussion

i might be switching to those super boxes for the future.....seems like a good investment
my veg unit does look like it will want to buckle under pressure with 15 gallons.....im staying with 10 gallons total.......see how that goes
for my flowering unit i might just go with the sturdy super box
 
lol, seen that SOG, ment the stand up water res, probly only thro specialty shops eh.. i gotta find a few of those for sure....
 
Could you elaborate on how the RO res works. Is it on all day till it tops off the res or do you have to turn it on manually? Are you gonna have to run a water line up to your attic?

RO system goes before the res, with a dedicated line to the RO
top off valve will be installed on the main res
then lines will be going out from my RO res to the individual site res
which will also have a top off valve each ;-)

Ah - I've been wondering on this. Seems like you need two valves, not one. Even if it drains it would be spraying at the same time slowing down the drain time.

Which type of top-off valve are you going with?
 
I've been working on an aero system with the black lidded tough box. They are nice and durable.

I personally felt it a necessity to paint mine white to help reduce the effect of radiant heat. Are you planning on doing anything like that or insulating it?

The only problem I have with these is if you drill a 2 7/8" hole for a 3" net pot in one of the squares of the lid, the hole is just a little too big for the square.

Now I'm wondering if the super box lid may work. It looks like the squares are a little bit bigger.

Any chance you could check the measurement at the thinnest part (probably from the underside)?
 
although its a long shot im looking for a tough box type thats 17 inches wide and 34 inches long.......so i can fit 2 inside my 35 by 35 area with the 220 watts of t5 lighting
my tough box design is fine for now with the roots growing a bunch in only 2 days....even with my ppm and ph meter both broke and my fixed units not here yet......word to the wise.....have a backup (even cheap) version of both ph and ec/ppm........i broke both within a week

interesting comment about painting the outside white to reduce the heat affect!
my room is going to be setup in a way that one site faces the other
inwards, both res gets to be on outside of the room with exhausted lights tubes above the center, few pages back you can find my DIY cool tube/ Adjust A Wing setup

i was only going to cover the outside of the boxes with alum tape or something similar used to insulate piping (cant remember the name), for reflectability

as for the squares size on top of the lid,
you will be good to go with the Strong Box
any particular reason your going with the 3" net pots?

How did the testing go with the two pumps? Was the 396gph not enough with your mod's to the original design. Did the 633gph handle it okay?...inquiring minds want to know!;-)

I've tried using foil tape before. I found that it didn't bond well to the plastic.

White paint also helps reflect any light back up from the top of the res.
If you decide to paint it, use the Fusion Plastic Paint. I've tried the rustoleum and valspar, the fusion is the best and it's available in satin white.

I'd suggest using fiberglass duct wrap insulation. It comes in a roll and the width is good for the height of these boxes. The backing is foil, so it's really just about perfect. I only insulate around the sides.

I use all 3" cups to keep consistency around my op.
My aeroflo2 was the deciding factor on cup size.

I've never got around to physically test it yet, instead i have contacted EZ-Clone company to find out about the misters spec and guidelines
with few other questions i had in regards to their performance
here is the responce i have received back from EZ-Clone tech peps

it depends greatly on what's supplying the pressure. For example, 
an Ez-Clone pump will push much fewer GPH through a single mister as opposed to a garden hose with 40 PSI. 
That being said, these misters will work just as effectively upside down. 
I have buit an irrigation system using them in this application. 
Can you give me an idea of how many of these misters you're wanting to use for your application?

my pleasure AeroKing, the Strong box will be perfect for your needs
as for the water weight, filled it with 18 gallons without a sign of fatigue
they are extremely strong, and passed the two people standing on the lid test i did with the tough box

i found this interesting box today at Lowe's called "Strong Box"
same capacity 27 gallons as the Home depot's "Tough Box"
Lowe's version is has a lower stacking rate 400lbs
almost exact dimension
Lowe's 400lbs 27G "Strong Box" 30.75"L x 20.5"W x 14.5"H
Home depot's 700lbs 27G "Tough Box" 30.8"L x 20.6"W x 14.2"H
it looks like the perfect unit for clone and veg, it stacks very tightly
much tighter then the other box ( the other is loose on top when stacked)
has more logical spaced cubes on top of the lid, ready to go clone and veg lineup
and the most significant difference is, check out the bottom of it
the center of it is perfect for a gravity drain, if this is lifted off the ground
the weight of the water will create a natural slanted center for easy drain :bigjoint:
