I'm alive.

Surgery went good today. Should be crawling around under my plants in 4 to 6 weeks. :D

Just incase anyone is curious I had double hernia surgery but they weren't able to do laparoscopic because of a blood clotting condition I have. They had to open me right up.

Well a 5L feeding every second day isn't cutting it. Plants dry out too much. They aren't wilting or anything but getting very light in the pots. Gonna try 3L one day and 5L the next. So we are watering everyday now.

You may be asking why not 4L everyday, that is because a 5L feeding gives me good run off. 4L doesn't give me enough to do shit in my opinion.

But who knows 3L every day might give me the runoff I want to see. But I am free to change these amounts at anytime because I am God in that room....I control everything.

Well the wife and I had a talk....I knew this day was coming as she has almost entirely grown this crop herself. I give her all the instructions but she has done most of the work.

I kinda feel bad that I have tied up so much of her free time since she also works full time as a bank manager and deserves her free time to do things she enjoys.

She wants me to simplify things like less watering and growing at a slower pace.

We decided to try supersoil. Hopefully it slows things down enough for her. I will still run CO² but the watering should be simpler, especially with the Growtek FM20 system using plain water and an occasional tea top watered.

I do not grow for profit so yield isn't my top priority, terpenes and bud quality are. So it should be a win for her and for me.

All this said, I have never grown organic and I haven't grown in soil since the 90's. It will be a definite learning curve.

In a week or so when I feel a bit better, I will start getting a supersoil built and start the cooking process so it is ready to go when this crop comes down. Hold on because things are gonna get interesting as I leave my synthetic comfort zone.

It seems like it would be easier to keep going with what you know instead of learning and dealing with organics while recuperating. The FM20 does all of the work. Maybe weigh out some little packets of nutrients to make it quicker. I was just talking about how I've felt lost since I got my Growtek setup and don't have to water anymore. I went from watering once or twice every single day for many years, to just mixing nutrients. I walk in, look at the plants, say "yep" and zip everything back up. I've been mixing the nutrients every other day, but that's mostly because I share the solution with my veg room.

As my brother in-law says right before he's says hold my beer, "God hates a coward and the Devil loves a fool". :D

Honestly, I have wanted to see the difference organics would make to "MY" grows. I have tried many so called organic crops others have grown but I wasn't impressed mainly because those growers were just poor growers and didn't take the time to either get the soil, climate and/or dry/cure correct.

Worst case scenario, I mess up a crop. It wouldn't be the first time. But then I can say to the wife "well I tried".

Day 20 Flower.

Well the room is doing good. Gonna have some decent colas by the looks of the plants. It also looks like the stretch-a-thon has slowed down. The Balck Cherry Punch are definitely filling out quicker than the Fuel Og.

I would have taken more pics but I am pretty sore today. The only reason I took any is because I was told to move around from time to time.

Day 23 Flower.

Not a whole lot to say. I only manage to visit the plants once a day for about enough time to snap 3 or 4 pictures.

But as far as I can tell they are doing their thing with no issues.

Since going to daily waterings, the wife is giving each plant about 3L/plant/day. It's a bit more work but I think the plants respond better to more frequent waterings. Definitely getting the Growtek FM 20 system soon. I would think 3x 1L waterings per day would be even better.

So anyways bud structure is starting to progress and I think the Black Cherry Punch are going to be heavy producers. The Fuel Og should do ok too but the BCP are definitely killing it at the moment.

Just a little update.

Plants are growing donkey dinks. Gonna be some nice colas I think. This is kinda weird because I have grown the Fuel Og before and although it had nice chunky buds, it didn't really grow long colas. Maybe it's the intense light, high nutrient feedings and CO²?

The BCP (Black Cherry Punch) is also growing colas but they will be a bit shorter than the colas on the Fuel Og side of the room. Pretty happy with both strains right now......and the grow room, pretty happy with it too.

Lots of leaves again, too many leaves. Been trying to take a handful everytime I go in there but I can only stand for a few minutes at a time, then I get sore, and the leaves seem to fill back in quicker than I can pick them.

The girls are starting to produce some terpenes too. A really good sign since it is ~85⁰f with the lights on and I know some terps evaporate above 72⁰f, so if they stink now, they will really stink when I drop the temps in a couple weeks.

BCP terps smell of sour berries and cherries, kinda like really strong sour jujubes. The Fuel Og has a strong lemon and tangerine smells. All this should be taken with a grain of salt though. My wife looks at me like I am nuts when I tell her what I am smelling. She says they stink like weed so who really knows.

Nice group shot, looking good mate:)
Thanks alot. Welcome to the show.

Been moving leaves around or plucking them and unfortunately finding tops that are not getting enough light. As hard as I tried to avoid larf, probably gonna have a bunch of it. But it is my first SCROG style grow so live and learn I guess. Lol

Day 29 Flower

The buds are starting to fill out. Pretty happy with their progress so far. I was honestly worried I wouldn't see much difference with the CO² but I think if everything keeps going like this for another 3-4 weeks, the buds will be fat. Then another 2 or 3 weeks to finish, I hope to be harvesting by mid June at the latest........hopefully. That would be 11 weeks of 12/12. Maybe I will get lucky and they will be done around week 9 or 10. Lol

This setup is looking great. It is very similar to what I am doing at the moment. A couple pieces of advice.

Make sure you have a backup dehumidifier. Could be a cheap kijiji one. I have sold a bunch of quest units and many have been down for service within the first year. Usually simple fixes but you may be waiting for parts for a couple days.

Samsung, Daikin and Mitsubishi all make cooling only -40 splits. I use a Samsung here in Winnipeg year round.

I use the same big CO2 tanks you do. When you have such a perfectly sealed room the tiniest leak can throw things off. My night time co2 was rising to crazy levels and I checked my reg a dozen times for leaks. Turned out it was the valve on the tank. I ended up buying a backup propane burner which I am using right now because my latest tank has a terrible leak.

Book time off work for harvest or your wife may divorce you :)

Do you happen to know which models of ductless AC are good for extreme cold. Everything I seem to be able to find temps on are for heat pumps not functioning or losing efficiency around -13⁰C. But if you can use a Samsung in Winterpeg, I totally buy into your claim. :D

I would love to get a ductless AC as my main and have the dial hose as a spare.

As for the dehumidifier, I can source cheaper units at local stores. But I should keep my eyes open for a cheaper used one as a spare.

I should also have spare Trolmaster sensors too, but damn those aren't cheap either. Maybe one day.

The harvest is the easy part since Iwill be drying in my grow room, we will just be stripping fans and drying. Two weeks later the dry trim will suck ass but I will be there for that and the way I trim is pretty quick. Since I am a personal grower, only hard dense buds get trimmed and anything airy or larfy go into the bubble hash bin. I don't waste my time dealing with it as the tops are enough for me.

So in an attempt to slow things down a bit and simplify the watering for my awesome wife, I have finally decided to commit to building/growing in a living soil. Doing this could turn my next few grows into a complete shit show but I am willing to accept the risk. I have researched Subcool type super soils, organic soils, living soils and growing with organic liquid nutrients. I think an almost organic living soil with no slaughterhouse type animal by-products is what interests me the most. I will post my recipe once I finish sourcing everything and work out all the math. It is however is going to follow sort of but not exactly follow one of the build-a-soil recipes.

I have always wanted to try growing in a living soil as taste is among my top priorities. I also think it would be kinda cool to try.

I will build my soil this later this week so it can cook for 8 weeks or so while I finish this grow and start the Zombie Kush grow.

Yesterday I ordered 5x 20 gallon grow bags. Only need 4 but having a spare isn't a bad thing. I also ordered 2x 100 gallon grow bags for mixing soil in, not for growing in.......at least not now anyways. Who knows maybe I will end up just growing 2 plants a a time in my room and then I could put them in 100 gallon pots. Lol
