the oregon-idaho border and minimum wage

Law of Demand

As we can see on the demand graph, there is an inverse relationship between price and quantity demanded. Economists call this the Law of Demand. If the price goes up, the quantity demanded goes down (but demand itself stays the same). If the price decreases, quantity demanded increases. This is the Law of Demand. On a graph, an inverse relationship is represented by a downward sloping line from left to right.

did you actually want to answer the question?

if minimum wage is an impediment to job creation, why is australia not swimming in unemployment with their $15 an hour minimum wage?

Why not make the minimum wage $100 per hour, or $1,000, or $10^9? Wages (the price of labor) are irrelevant to employment (demand for labor)! Right, Marie?

It's no wonder you dropped out of college. Leave the thinking to people equipped to do it, such as me and Harrekin.

So that every poor slob can work one hour and then retire, like you Marie.

so in other words, you have no good reason. that's what i thought.

whereas i do have a very good reason for raising the minimum wage a couple bucks to about $10 an hour: so that people who work full time don;t have to depend on government handouts.

are you for the dignity of work, or do you want full time workers to stand in a welfare line?

Yes.

I want sloths such as yourself to be able to make a trillion dollars by flipping burgers for one hour and then to retire to the dignity of leisure.

again, there is no need to even continue this conversation unless you want to continue to expose how weak your position is, and how your dogma enjoys zero empirical evidence to support it.

Sorry dude, but most chronically poor people on welfare will never amount to a hill of beans, some will, but most will be poor all their lives. No government can ever change that no matter how much money they throw at them.

i wasn;t talking about poor people on welfare, i was talking about full time workers whose 40 hour weeks couldn't provide for the basic dignities.

Your problem is basing work on hours rather than worth. Just showing up for life is enough for all you liberals. That's not reality and just as stupid of a bullshit utopia Rob talks about. Basic dignities are worth a lot, just look at the rest of the world. Most of the world work their ass off for much less than even a homeless person here gets. This nation is so great, people like you can bitch about "basic dignities" which are living like a king in some third world nation.

I advocate the opposite. Explain to my uninspired brain how that's aiming lower? How is just giving away basic dignities for any job not communism? Why not tell people to actually aim higher for a job which will pay basic dignities? Minimum wage jobs are supposed to be used as stepping stones, not aspiring for the lowest common denominator.

BTW, I'm not a Republican nor a Democrat. That's a very simple minded notion and the reason our country will some day become a third world nation like our neighbor Mexico.
