The Senate just passed a resolution to end US support for the Saudi war in Yemen

The Senate has passed a historic resolution directing the Trump administration to rescind all US military assistance to Saudi Arabia related to its war in Yemen.

The resolution, which passed 56 to 41, is a rare bipartisan rebuke to the White House over its policies toward Saudi Arabia. The measure, which had failed in the Senate in March, was revived and reinvigorated in the wake of the murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi on October 2.

Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), Mike Lee (R-UT), and Chris Murphy (D-CT) co-sponsored the resolution to stop US involvement in Yemen, where a Saudi-led coalition is fighting the Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The nearly four-year conflict has killed an estimated 50,000 people and put nearly 12 million on the brink of famine.

The war in Yemen — and US support for the Saudi-led effort — actually began during the Obama administration. But President Trump has moved the US even closer to Saudi Arabiaas part of his administration’s broader Middle East policy, which largely focuses on countering Iran.

A dozen Republicans signed onto it, five Democrats crossed party lines to kill it in the House. That is unfortunate..

Why didn’t the justice democrats primary them all and win all of their seats with their much more popular policies?

hundreds of Republicans voted to kill it and five Democrats signed on with them.

Yeah, practically all Republicans are assholes and five Democrats are too. On this I can agree.
 
So it was the murder of one journalist that made this situation that's already killed at least 85,000 people in a genocide perpetrated by Saudi Arabia backed by American weapons and American support, supporting a fanatic fundamentalist religious cult viable to pass legislation. It took 85,000 lives.. Take that in and think about it..

Imagine if some foreign country came in and murdered 85,000 Americans before one popular member of the foreign invading supporting nations put it in writing that enough is enough, and through it, garnered the majority support of the invading nations population. He changed the tide of that war as it currently exists.

Sanders doesn't even need to be president to affect change. He does need to be president to affect policy. He's right on every policy position, even his critics can't argue that.

You fail to hold Democrats responsible for the actions they take on votes in congress. That's why many of them consistently get away with voting against democratic interests

Is it your job to help get Democrats elected, or is it your job to ensure the Democrats you helped get elected represent the constituents who voted them into office?

We're in the middle of possibly the most corrupt administration in history with a president who leads by hate speech and division, who is also denying global warming and colluding with Russians right on national TV...

How many times will it have to be said that the Democratic party is far better than the Republican party when it comes to policy issues?

This does not absolve Democratic party members from criticism. It does not justify being slightly better than Republicans.


This vote is a perfect example. Five House Democrats voted against the resolution to end the US support for Saudi Arabia in the war against Yemen. Instead of holding them to the fire and demanding justification, you automatically jump to condemning those that condemn the Democratic congresspeople for opposing the resolution, because you believe if you oppose the Republican party, you should automatically support everything every single member of the Democratic party does.

That argument just got you continued genocide in Yemen. Because of five Democratic votes in the House, the resolution to stop a genocide that has already killed 85,000 civilians with American support (ensuring future aggression) will likely continue.

Why choose to support these kinds of Democrats in congress when their Republican counterpart would likely vote for the same thing anyway? See: Doug Jones in Alabama
 
Why still support them while condemning the Republicans that voted against it? Shouldn't they be held to the same standard?
