To Top, Or Not Too Top. That Is The ?

Topping is extremely strain dependent. It's always good to contact your seed bank and spend time doing
strain specific research from other experienced growers who have had that strain for multiple seasons and can tell you through various experimenting & journals/logging what it prefers and what difference you should expect in yield. I know for my white widow it says that you simply will not achieve the yield you are looking for without multiple toppings. I have a kush where I've read some people doing one topping at the 5th node & leaving it alone to be best, but am trying everything from single cola, to 5th node topping and multiple toppings. Then I have a hybrid going that simply has no genetic history and I kinda have to do my own experimenting and then take that into account for the clones I took off her and wanna use next cycle.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. This was a fun grow. Its going to be strange not to have any OB around the garden.

And Watuotho. Mizar took the long way around but pretty much answered your question. Its all a matter of experimentation. I disagree Mizar that it is very strain related. Yes some strains hate to be topped. But for the most part topping, supercropping, lst and fimming will help you make better use of your grow area. In turn increasing yields. There is no one magical formula. You just have to find your own roll. What works best for you. And for the most part there is no wrong way to top. It just works out better sometimes than others. Kinda like, its all good, some is just better than others. Do something a bit different with each of your plants. See what works best for that strain, your grow style and enviroment.

And no worries on him posting the pics Riddle. Some pages back I stated it was an open journal for all to share in.

Saints meet the Pats and leave the Aints. Haha. Preseason sucks!!!!!!!! Let get this thing started already!

And read Riddles threads. He is a great teacher, no BS, just the straight dope. Lots of helpful and friendly folks about his place.

Pats won and I still think preseason sucks. We lost Ty warren. Huge blow.

And thanks for watching my back Riddle. And it was a good heads up for Wut. Wut some folks tend to get pissed if you post pics univited in thier grow journals.

I just had to get a better look. And I am glad I did. Pretty certain we will come to no conclusions on which topping method is best. But I do think it will say alot about the different pruning methods at hand to tune your crop. Harvest is going to be fun:hump:

Been along time brother, what's up over here?
Neglect is what is happening:cry:. The Sharksbreath was a mold fest when I came home the other night. Didnt get any pics but did manage to salvage a few buds from the 3 topper. The White Russian is still looking good and getting close. But I am dissapointed in the resin production out of it from the CMH. Its a strain I am familiar with and the CMH just didnt do it for me on this particular plant. The Amnesia Lemon on the other hand mainly under the Eye Hortilux is beautiful. I have some pics from it taken about a week ago. Its actually going down tonight.

And I apologize all for the laps'. Its fall, I'm a farmer, you get the point. Sorry to be tearse but promise to catch up properly on a day we get rained out of the fields.

And all most forgot about the Cole Train clones. Remember one I tranplanted a few weeks into flower? I think it payed off.

HPIM2883.jpgCole Trains. The pot up was worth it. IMO a plant would never waste energy growing new roots if it were not looking for something. And the thought of redirecting, not ready to buy that one yet.

The Amnesia Lemon topped for two. Transplanted on 7/1 from 2 gal. into the 18 gal. tote filled with my basic mix and Garden Tone by Epsoma. Got it at Home Depot for 13 bucks or so Then watered. 12/12 began 7/4. I am impressed with the results this first go around. So is Darryl and Darryl approve.

Figure it out while I try and figure out the Pats defense? Young and furious or just rookies? In Belichick I trust.

Hey Cowboy, did you not get any purple female phenos in the Purple Rain seeds? If not, let me know, gotta send you some more, MUST get a purple girl, or I won't be happy. Also have some new testers if you are interested, fresh off the vine, lol.

Sorry Rocky, no true blue gals. Still trying to get the purp male to revert. 7 weeks now under at least 20hrs and just now showing signs of new veg, about to give up. I will have plenty of beans from him and the short pheno pr female. Plus Isis beans. I got big buds fulll of big beans. I will be sure to get some of both your way. And of course anything you have to offer the stable would be most appreciated.
