"Those who do not read the newspaper are uninformed, those who do are misinformed" Mark Twain

Silas, I have two kids. One wants to kick your ass every day. The other just wants to eat. If you don't want me to send the first one over you need to send food for the second one. Just so you know, I'm only going to give it to the first one so he can stay strong to come kick your ass when you stop sending food. Deal? PS They BOTH hate your f'in guts and want you dead. Keep sending us food. Thank you.

As many have pointed out we have innocent kids starving here in the US, where most people are good, generous, kind people. If we stop sending food to N. Korea, the poor will eventually revolt and overthrow the dictatorship. When that happens, we will be happy to help them help themselves. Until then, what is OUR obligation to them?

Don't you live in Washington, US?

Now where is that GD "like" button for some great posts here????

The video is like me posting this^ and telling you to be afraid because a small minority of Hispanics want to enforce mariachi music. It's baiting our natural instincts to dislike people that are different from us.

There is a reason why this thread is not in the politics forum and even there I bet there would be issues with understanding the actual situation that is going on instead of here say and what people "think" they know about International politics and the culture and history of the nations that we deal with.

We just agreed to start giving food rations to North Korea once again on a agreement that North Korea would not pursue nuclear intentions or any actions that could be seen as working towards that goal. The prior agreement had been revoked by the Bush administration if I'm not mistaken. This newest agreement was seen as a good sign that North Korea was willing to work with not just the United States but the wishes of many other United Nations partners. It was understood that any provocation would induce a stop of food benefits North Korea was now set to receive. On top of the missile launch this past week there has been murmuring about a underground nuclear test as well. There have been images taken of North Korean workers closing up what looks like a underground test site. Basically the ultimatum given to the North Korean government was we will help provide food aid to your government and people as long as the North Korean government did not advance their offensive measures.

The two things going on here are
1) The United States and the rest of the the other international influences are seeing the cut of food aid a decision made with full knowledge of what was going on and basically trying to guilt the government into not starving their people just to pursue nuclear-esc weapons. North Korean technology is often sold to a lot of countries that are experiencing severe government abuses. Syria and so on. The idea is that we cannot trust them with a weapon that can literally destroy the world. We are trying to put them into a situation where the NK gov sees that it is starving its own people by pursuing nuclear advancements.

2) The NK government just gets to tell their people excuses and propaganda for lack of food. They use everything as a chance to keep the mind cult intact. They literally install a fear of a constant threat of invasion by the "imperialist" Americans and their puppet army in South Korea. So every-time there is a food shortage whether related to food aid or NOT they blame it on the imperialist when telling their people the bad news. The issue also is we dont know who the hell is ACTUALLY running NK. It might be the kid but more and more people in the loop are saying there is more leadership coming from a behind the scenes group of high ranking government officials. Including Kim Jong Il's brother in law. We dont know what lays beneath the surface we see in North Korea so it is widely accepted that we take a firm hand with them because they could put the rest of the world in jeopardy. This is not just a USA v NK thing, Its a majority of the international world v NK thing.

For the United States it is the beginning of the transition from constant use of hard power (the shit you allllll are complaining about in this thread, the invasions, occupations and so forth) to a use of soft power. Trying to solve international situations through non military actions. The issue is the North Korean government throughout recent history has constantly broken agreements knowing that they would be doing damage to their people for the sake of military advance. The North Korea leaders are the ones at fault here the moral dilemma of starving their own people for the selfish pursuit of nuclear weapons when infrastructure is non existent. They are literally trying to build weapons to protect shanties and a ideology. Not people and infrastructure rich society.

Do you honestly believe they had any intent to feed the poor people? The food was earmarked for the army. The government has a history of letting their own starve while the higher ups eat caviar and stuff their faces.

and.... you don't reward your enemy for for violating UN resolutions that you sponsored.....

http://news.yahoo.com/u-stops-food-aid-north-korea-missile-launch-134245913.html

so someone launches a failure and you stop helping people with food why? people are going to starve because of this. this is so wrong on too many levels. these people need help and we take it away because the country did something we have been doing for years. this is just more reason to help they spend money on a rocket which could have fed the people but we also make it worse by stopping. if you say im fucked up for posting this then your more fucked up and inhuman for saying this is a completely good idea

you're really uninformed. we dont owe the world ANYTHING. not food aid, not cash aid. But we choose to dispense it out anyway. So when we stop feeding a country that hates our guts and is only waiting for the day that they are strong enough to attack, dont throw your hands up and cry "injustice! injustice!"
Because its really not. if anything, its actually justice. The government just steals the food we send anyway, and the people starve anyway, so the only people who will suffer from us not sending food is the government that wishes to destroy us, this will weaken their power, and if the north korean citizens can wake up from their brainwashing, they can get justice on those who have abused them for so long. Its a bit of a pipe dream. And it will keep us from sending food to a corrupt country who would rather spend the money on the whims of the rules, than feed starving babies

Its not the brainwashing. Id say a lot of them know its fucked over there. Its the constant surveillance/police state environment. If a guy runs away and leaves North Korea they will go to his parents and either 1)Kill them after interrogating them 2)Send them to a work camp.

The fact is no matter how malnourished the Norths soldiers are or even how short they are they still have one millions soldiers ready to take the DMZ and Seoul at ANY given moment. They just know once they take the DMZ there is no going back. They are a ticking time bomb that can go off at any second. The people cant organically create change there so we have to wait for a new opportunity to arise for the international community to take action.

Heres some fun for everyone both are their own series and both are really interesting.
