It's funny, those that are well to the left, Med, DP, are going on and on about how radical and extremist Ron Paul is. I just don't see it. To me, extremist are those other flakes on the left like Acorn that got us into this mess by forcing banks to issue subprime mortgages with the help of government.

At any rate. Ron Paul's ideas were not radical, though one would certainly say that they were reformist, and would reduce government in size and scope to something less than it was in the 1930s.

The abolishment of Social Security (after floating the Debt necessary to pay off its obligations) would be a good thing for this country. In just that taxes could be lowered at least 7.5% (the employer's portion could be used to focus on paying off the national debt) or the complete 15% which would allow for a lot more spending in the economy.

But at any rate, I don't see what's so 'extremist' about Ron Paul's views. Seems to me that they are more a matter of common sense.

1. Limit Federal Powers, returning more authority to the States
2. Balance the Budget and work on paying off the debt.
3. Remove the ability to Print money from the government's hands by requiring that it use Gold and Silver as currency.
4. All of the above results in drastically lowered taxes, and returns authority over to the states. If the states want to continue to be socialist that their business, or if they want to become more capitalist that's their business as well. Instead of 1 gestalt, which is subject to being completely fucked up by the morons on the left, you have 50 entities united that are independent of each other, and thus can decide on their own what social system is best for their citizens. More to the point, the state(s) that choose the best system will become wealthier than the states that choose incorrectly. Ideally, this would provide a way for people to see which system works the best, and thus serve to end all debate.

Though I can just imagine how quickly the more socialist states would be swamped by people wanting free hand outs proving that when you subsidize something (stupidity, laziness) all you get is more of it.

You know what's kind of funny, yet sad? The way people are talking about the man's beliefs in the past tense. He still believes in, preaches, and PRACTICES all of these things. :D

Everything one needs to know is contained in this excellent book. I own it. I started reading it again the other day for the umpteenth time. Its out of print but find it if you can. I found mine in a used book store up in Portland Oregon years ago for $19.95.

Anyone who thinks Ron Paul is "radical," "weird," or "stupid" will change their minds after the first few paragraphs. Hey, some of you libbies and present students attending our government monopolized school systems may just come to the realization that U.S. History originated prior to 1960. :blsmoke:

He couldn't get elected because his views were just too radical. He wanted to Privatize everything, and that just wouldn't work. He did have some other good Ideas though, I must agree.
That statement is incorrect. He wants the federal government having less control and the states to have more control.

example- he wanted the Fema money for cleaning up the Texas Gulf sent to the local governments and let them handle the cleanup instead of Fema. After seeing how Fema mismanaged New Orleans I agree. Why give all that money to a branch of government that has a horrible record? Hell, even the Detroit Lions get it right once in awhile.

Lets get this back on trackkkkkkkkkkk

good.
You mean the what was wrong with Ron Paul thing, I think we've covered it, but just in case you missed it:
1.He was unelectable
2.He wanted to privatize everything
3.He would have been assassinated.
4.His agenda didn't fit any "logical" scenario, like I mean it sounded good, but never would have worked in this system and change would never have been possible with the amount of inherent corruption that exists in our present government. His shit sounded good to some, but could never have been passed, too many politicians on the take. He'd of been mowed down in a heartbeat.
5.His whole deal was to appeal to the libertarian dreamers that want no government and are independent minded, yes I said dreamers, for there will never be a libertarian USA. I for one admired him for his candid speeches, his congressional record, and his apparent honesty, but his privatization agenda scared the hell out of me.

You must be old. Lost that fire to try and change things? :(
Yeah old and jaded, but I'll tell you something, you can listen or not, I've never seen this country in this bad of shape in my 68 years. I also don't see much hope for the future, like we, My generation, has seen the best years of the good old USofA. I hope I'm wrong, because of my grandkids, but it looks bad from here.
