I said it a few times in this forum, America is still leading the way, both the good and the bad. And whatever trend makes it to the west of Europe, haircuts or repopulation theories, we pass on to the east. Fortunately for us we're just far enough behind to see what happens when you elect a Trump before we do it ourselves.
Part of the problem (in my unqualified opinion) is the leveling effect largely mediated by global corporations. This tends to wipe out regional pockets of vitality that have been the engines of reconstruction after, say, a 1929 to 1945 (honestly 1948; some bad postwar years in central Europe) interval of upheaval. Hard to keep us all treading water if we are chained to a common anchor.

The conservative movement in Canada has taken a hit over Trump and the republicans down south and there are influences here as well, as in the Truckers vaccine protest. Here however the conservatives are shy about embracing racists, fascists and other assorted losers, so they tend to wander the political wilderness with no political home. The closest thing they have here is the conservative party, but they have learned the lessons of the Americans. Such people can poison a political party by driving out the good people and attracting the lunatics, then they run the party into the ground while drawing in con artists and psychos to lead them. Both Trump and Santos knew which party to run for, they knew suckers when they saw them.

However in America, they have a dedicated propaganda network, Foxnews, that wouldn't be allowed in Europe, setting the Poles on the Germans and the Dutch on the French and causing social division while lying about government policy etc. Europe would be ablaze with a multilingual foxnews and the EU would be toast in the chaos.

In contrast, this came today, too:

The 2nd article makes the point that this is the 3rd mass exodus from Russia in the last ~100 years: during & after the October Revolution & the Bolshevik/Menshevik mess, after the fall of USSR, and now.

The destabilizing effects will be felt for another hundred years, in Russia, in Europe, and wherever those masses of refugees settle.

Isn't Steven Segal still there? Maybe he'll go down with Vlad in the bunker. Then there are the republican senators who will show up in Moscow on July 4th. Maybe they can have a house delegation join them this summer to show solidarity and support for Vlad.

it looks like both combatants are able to place shots with quite a small cep.
Yep, but are they hitting anything? or just firing on a village, the Ukrainians appear to shoot when they have a target and they have many more drones to spot them, the M777 is purported to be basically a long range sniper rifle, even without guided rounds. Then there are the American supplied counter battery radars the Ukrainians use to kill Russian guns when they fire, while out of range themselves.

Firing on a village with dug in troops is different than firing on an attacking column stopped on a road in the open with the coordinates already known from mine laying.

seagull might still have American citizenship, but he's no more an American than putin is.
As far as republican senators, i hope they coincidentally schedule their visit for the day Ukraine finally bombs the kremlin into constituent components...

while they do seem to be able to strike the same area repeatedly...we don't know their intended targets, either side could be able to hit a small area repeatedly, but is it the right small area? the anecdotal evidence suggests that Ukraine has quite an advantage in this area, but i'd like to see some unfudged russian data, as well

That is about choice of aimpoint.

They’re hitting within 10m of the chosen aimpoint.

I remember some frothy commentary here some months ago about Russian shit artillery. Here are counterdata.

Ukraine needs our late-tech weapons yesterday.

i'm not looking to start an arguement, but how do you know what they're aiming at? you can achieve that same pattern by just walking one of the aiming adjustments by one "degree" every time you fire...that doesn't seem like proof that they're actually hitting what they intended to hit to begin with, does it?

the crater clusters coincide with sensible targets in the video.

Not an American citizen: Russian by personal Putinization
You have to declare that you gave up your citizenship. In America taxation is based on citizenship, in Canada on residency, but we do have a tax treaty with America, so nobody gets away. Non citizens pay taxes in America too apparently, if they live there. Maybe Steve gave up his US citizenship to avoid paying US taxes.

If *we* can look at drone footage of this encounter, the Russians certainly could (have their own spotter drones). As Cannabineer points out, the accuracy suggests that level of reliable positioning.
