I don't understand why putin wants to provoke us, unless he wants full scale war with NATO, which doesn't seem like something he would want.
The first thing that pops to mind is that he has a deal with Xi, for chinese military support in the case of an invasion by NATO.
That would be very bad indeed...
The only other possibility that i can think of is he's trying to provoke his way into a nuclear exchange, which he has to know won't go well for him either.
Nothing putin does seems to make any sense, which concerns me...he either has something up his sleeve, or he's just fucking insane.
Neither is a good thing.

it has become obvious to the entire world that russia is at best a third rate military power. They've allowed their tech to fall behind, and allowed their equipment to rot due to corruption. The whole campaign is costing them exponentially more than they thought it was going to.
They can't beat Ukraine, with 1/3 their population, and what was a minuscule army compared to theirs.
Expanding the fight would be the most incredibly stupid thing they could do.
Unless he has something up his sleeve...

no, disagree. definitely not third rate but absolutely falling behind and rotten with political and financial corruption. would you agree that sometimes the most incredibly stupid thing to do is also what can solidify you, or your position in a dispute?

Vlad is flapping about in desperation and as the situation worsens for him, he might be flapping while being tossed out a window.

You haven't seen anything yet, wait a couple of months for when the Ukrainians roll on the poor bastards that are left in the trenches and sweep them from mainland Ukraine while capturing many. Next the Kerch bridge will be destroyed turning Crimea into an island and trapping whatever equipment Vlad has there while the fighting rages on the mainland and eventually into Belarus, who could be involved before Crimea is taken.

Vlad is gonna be a lot more desperate than he is now, but all he has to do is leave Ukraine, otherwise it will be the death of the Russian army, in Ukraine and then finally in Belarus, which should suck in whatever is left.

Xi might be waiting for new leadership in Moscow too and might not want to commit to Vlad, if Vlad might not be around. Whatever weakens Russia is to China's advantage in Asia and the looming possibility of the Russian empire's dissolution must have them intensely interested and starting to focus on Russian regions and autonomous republics to their north. Considering how slender and tenuous Russia's links to the east are and their historic mistreatment and the low numbers of ethnic Russians in the area, they should see opportunity. The weaker and poorer Russia becomes the more some autonomous republics will want to break away, and more FSB officers and internal security forces will be assassinated. Breaking away could mean support from China and out from under sanctions for many republics in the east of Russia. China has to be weighing all this before getting into bed with Vlad and making him stronger. In the chaos of Vlad's demise, the place might well break apart or chunks come off.

it is conceivable that it might serve one purpose, while destroying you another way...all the consolidation in the world won't save you from total annihilation...

I imagine they are, and Ron could get Russian help along with Donald all that free fox advertising too, that isn't reported to the FEC, imagine that!
Now Moscow just needs to write the lines and Rupert can even save money on writers, the narrative will be crafted for them in Moscow, contracted out, if you will. They will even translate it for them to make sure they get it right.

I fully agree, russia should be expelled from the UN immediately. Having them as a member demeans the whole organization, turns it into a cruel joke...
The USSR had the security council seat not Russia and if anything, it should be rotated between the former members, but seriously other countries should have a bigger say. I say do away with the security council or just have liberal democratic members, those who live by the rule of law. The EU should take the place of France and the UK should not have a seat at all, unless they include other countries, China and Russia should be expelled. Africa needs a voice as does south America, so continental membership should be considered too, but liberal democracies hold the power on international law and only those who live by the rule of law should wield it.
