we're in the middle of a struggle with white supremacists, white nationalist, religious zealots, and a perjurous supreme court...we're so fucking far from invincible that it is over the horizon and behind a couple of mountains.

He talks about patriotism, but i think that's just for marketing. I highly doubt he has a patriotic bone in his shitty body, and would be receptive to negotiations. I'm not sure how receptive he would be to the same demands though, to be honest. The only acceptable results will be for russia to leave all Ukrainian territory, and he may demand a base on the Sea of Azov. I'm not sure why? they seem to already hold one entire coastline of it, but it's been brought up before, perhaps because the only passage to the black sea is next to Crimea?...just guarantee them passage rights to the black sea in perpetuity...

Russia has the east coast of the Black Sea even when Ukrainian territory is fully restored. Fuck them and access to Crimea.
In fact, if I were King Of Stuff I’d turn Rostov oblast and Krasnodar krai over to Ukrainian control. Call it reparations. That would give them the unbroken coast from Romania to Georgia.

A leaked internal strategy document from Vladimir Putin’s executive office and obtained by Yahoo News lays out a detailed plan on how Russia plans to take full control over neighboring Belarus in the next decade under the pretext of a merger between the two countries. The document outlines in granular detail a creeping annexation by political, economic and military means of an independent but illiberal European nation by Russia, which is an active state of war in its bid to conquer Ukraine through overwhelming force.
“Russia’s goals with regards to Belarus are the same as with Ukraine,” Michael Carpenter, the U.S. ambassador to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, told Yahoo News. “Only in Belarus, it relies on coercion rather than war. Its end goal is still wholesale incorporation.”
According to the document, issued in fall 2021, the end goal is the formation of a so-called Union State of Russia and Belarus by no later than 2030. Everything involved in the merger of the two countries has been considered, including the “harmonization” of Belarusian laws with those of the Russian Federation; a “coordinated foreign and defense policy” and “trade and economic cooperation … on the basis of the priority” of Russian interests; and “ensuring the predominant influence of the Russian Federation in the socio-political, trade-economic, scientific-educational and cultural-information spheres.”
In practice, this would eliminate whatever remains of Belarus’s sovereignty and reduce a country about the size of Kansas, with 9.3 million people, to the status of a Moscow satellite. It would put Belarusians at the mercy of the Kremlin’s priorities, whether in agriculture, industry, espionage or war. And it would pose a security threat to Belarus’s European neighbors, three of which — Latvia, Lithuania and Poland — are members of NATO and the European Union....

If they could take out Pootin's nuclear capabilities using conventional weapons I'd be up for that but any preemptive use of nukes against Russia would make Nato the bad guy with Biden their elCapitan.
It's like the only way it can play out is waiting for Pootin to throw the first nuke then wipe them out but then we all have to bend over, place head firmly between the knees and kiss our collective asses goodbye.
Beginning to wish I'd given in to my prepper tendencies more.

No likes for bare twitter links either. Just a rabbit hole of negativity and nobody needs that. Getting rid of negative people in my life has done me a world of good so avoiding negative web shit should make my world even better.
Most of those links are about things I've watched on PBS Newshour already anyway.

I totally understand your rage and feel it myself. I've always known that I have lived in a rare and peaceful era in comparison to my parents and their's and to most generations before those.
I never had to fear bombs dropping on my house other than the air raid sirens that would be tested periodically and sometimes malfunction and go off in the middle of the night. There was one not half a mile from my house on the bank of the Fraser river with Vancouver, prime target in a nuclear war, another half mile across the river. Get the drills at school. See the flash or hear the sirens, duck and cover. I wonder if those had the same effect on kids minds that the shooter drills in your country have on those kids. I was old enough to feel the concern about the Bay of Pigs fiasco and near war emanating from the adults in my sphere.
Sad to see the state the world is in now and praying for a happy ending.
