OMG we're so alike :3 I play 5 instruments, 3 core... But will play anything I can get my hands on in any orchestra that will have me. I did ABRSM music theory but It doesn't stick either. How the hell do people sight read??
I learned Adobe suite fucking around aswell, but do buy those visual guides; there are dozens of ways of doing the same thing but these books will help you do it in the most effective and efficient way and show you what the program is capable of that you wouldn't have otherwise thought of doing.
And I suck at math too...
Have you posted any pictures in the art forum? I 'd love to see some of these sketches!! x
I think we'd get on really well in real life.
Coming from a classical background.
They have classes in sightreading and ear training. I've had tests where the teacher played a piece on the piano and we have to write it down note for note. She would tell us the key it was in, play the scale and then begin playing the piece. Of course it was broken up into smaller sections and we could ask the teacher to play it several times, but, you were scored on your correctness. Sightreading tests were similar. You were allowed to look through it and are even given time to study the harder sections of the piece. Once again, scored on correctness. Then there were performance classes where you learn a piece and then played it for your peers. They critique you and sabotage you. The teacher would instruct the audience to distract the performer with background noise. Coughing, imitating a crying baby, phones ringing. One time I was hit on the head with a tennis ball. It was hell. But it was fun too.
I play the piano, guitar and mandolin solid. I was clarinet player during school. During the football season I played the regular clarinet or the alto clarinet, depending on where I was needed. During the concert season I played the bass and contra-bass clarinet. I'm a classically trained tenor too.
