What is your area of formal study? What's your specialty?

OMG we're so alike :3 I play 5 instruments, 3 core... But will play anything I can get my hands on in any orchestra that will have me. I did ABRSM music theory but It doesn't stick either. How the hell do people sight read??

I learned Adobe suite fucking around aswell, but do buy those visual guides; there are dozens of ways of doing the same thing but these books will help you do it in the most effective and efficient way and show you what the program is capable of that you wouldn't have otherwise thought of doing.

And I suck at math too...

Have you posted any pictures in the art forum? I 'd love to see some of these sketches!! x

I think we'd get on really well in real life.

Coming from a classical background.

They have classes in sightreading and ear training. I've had tests where the teacher played a piece on the piano and we have to write it down note for note. She would tell us the key it was in, play the scale and then begin playing the piece. Of course it was broken up into smaller sections and we could ask the teacher to play it several times, but, you were scored on your correctness. Sightreading tests were similar. You were allowed to look through it and are even given time to study the harder sections of the piece. Once again, scored on correctness. Then there were performance classes where you learn a piece and then played it for your peers. They critique you and sabotage you. The teacher would instruct the audience to distract the performer with background noise. Coughing, imitating a crying baby, phones ringing. One time I was hit on the head with a tennis ball. It was hell. But it was fun too.

I play the piano, guitar and mandolin solid. I was clarinet player during school. During the football season I played the regular clarinet or the alto clarinet, depending on where I was needed. During the concert season I played the bass and contra-bass clarinet. I'm a classically trained tenor too. :p

I did not gain any formal qualifications. I do not consider A levels as formal qualifications.

That aside i tend to be adept at psychology, specifically relationship psychology and business psychology, other than that i like to study law in my spare time on a casual level, know a lot about computers. But no, no formal qualifications in them, i tend to think a piece of paper does not add merit nor detract from the ability to do something. I have helped a lot of people and businesses and i was always thanked for my help and told it was valuable to them, that is the only "qualification" i look for.

Truth be told, i absolutely infuriate my parents, i know it is big headed, but i am one of those people who can excel at anything i put my mind to, the isue being i don't really bother putting my mind towards anything, far prefer being lazy :D

At present i am a chef out of no real desire to make it a life career, but purely because i believe it is one of those life skills that everyone should have and i just want to be able to cook great food for myself and others.

I grew up on a farm and by 15 i was running some of the smaller jobs on a farm.
at 14 got my first commercial job at a grocery store.
started working construction and pipe fitting at 16.
became scuba certified at 21.
Studied mechanical engineering and manufacturing in college.
Worked the corporate grind climbing to middle management.
Went back to college for computer networking.
I have opened 2 business. sold one and still work the other.
I have lived on 4 continents, at times the only English speaking mofo for miles. {no not Miami or LA lol}
I have been married 3 times. I found a keeper this time. :)

Having been out there in the cold cruel world does not make my opinions any more or less important than anyone elses
however it may give me a different perspective on an issue.

I am a Audio Engineer. I also worked for some time as an Electronics Engineer. Currently I am Chief Engineer at a tv/film post studio complex that has studios in Burbank and Studio City CA. My boss is very ill and I have been acting as Director of Technology the last few months. We specialize in English dubs of Japanese Anime. We also do a bunch of original dialogue recording too along with full online video edit.

I earned my AAS and BA in 1991. I have worked on so much fun stuff over the last 20 or so years.

In my free time I like to tinker with guitar, fish and smoke weed.

Say I know a little

So it seem there are a bunch of engineers on here, whats all this about we don't have enough engineers coming from politics.

I have a few buddies who cant get a job anywhere, one has His Masters in Chemical Engineering.I'm having to do the work of a tech but it still pays good.

It stinks that the economy is so bad that people with good degrees have to take jobs they over qualify for, but at least there is still a way to pay the bills ;)

i spent nearly 3 years looking and being told i was either over or under qualified.

i hate my job because of who i work with rather than what i do though.

hey budlover, would you mind going into more detail about the escalation of force thing you mentioned m8?? what exactly do you mean by this?
i have always noticed that when i've been pulled over, for ex, in my driveway for my car radio being too loud, they tend to bring like 3 or more cars, but not sure if this is what you're referring to or not..
thank you kindly.. :D

Escalation of Force is a procedure/tactic taught and required by most LEO agencies. It is required due to many factors including, but not limited to, the law, lawsuits, common sense, etc.

In basic terms, it is responding to the need for force by utilizing the least harmful force available to you. For example, if a suspect is refusing to obey orders, the next step in escalation is to use physical force (i.e. grabbing him, wrestling, or even punching). If he is refusing to obey and pulls a "soft weapon" (such as a backpack, full bag, his hands, etc) you counter with the least harmful force at your disposal which would be a tazer or spray (i never carried a taser. it was just one more level of force to negotiate before taking care of business imo and was unproven when i was working. i carried pepper spray instead and it is so-so imo). If he pulls a bat or knife, you pull a gun. If he reaches for or pulls the gun, you shoot him to cease the threat.

i work for the largest company in the world now, i wish they would share the wealth, but then again they pay me and i get high all day working in virtual world while sitting in my grow room in my pajamas so i can't complain :eyesmoke:
