upon further review....was checking out the bulbs and noticed one had a decent hole in the bottom part where the glass meets the plastic (in the glass)..thats probably the source of the smell im guessing...gonna take it back to the store n see if i can get refunded.....hopefully or else im down to 2 26 watts

alright...so i went to the store and they did indeed refund me on my bulbs. I had taken 2 out of their sockets + plus the spare back, so one was left in....i came back home and it deffinetly reaked like the same smell...smelt the bulb and it smelt and was suuuuuper hot, the plastic part and everything.

I proceeded to read the box and it says not to sue the bulbs with electronic timers.... that and the bottom of the bulb - socket - looking slightly different..im really unsure now.
I decided to just put the seeds under sunlight for now, until i got this figured out....too much heat (way more than the 40w 2700k) and that smell is making me sick....really unsure, and a very in-opportune time for it to happen..these seeds need to crack
The 40 w package says the same...i dunno im fuckin clueless right now :S :S :S

that's a serious deal, i seem to remember something about electronic timers and cfl's, but it's kind of hazy
there are the older style mechanical contact timers, which is what i use, may not be a help here
you could just throw the switch by hand, but that may not be practical for the long term

throwing the switch is pretty easy in flower..as long as im not too busy. for veg it'd be a little impractical..though not impossible. either need a really weird schedule or to wake up multiple times / early. Its a brand new 3 outlet electric timer....so far no smell.bout half n hour in. I like not hand switching for veg as i like it to be off when im asleep...pretty paranoid about fire hazards.. so if i were to hand switch..which its looking like ill have to...its gonna have to be like 5:30 pm to 11:30 pm dark...room is much cooler at night and the bulbs will have had time to rest/cool before i go to bed atleast

okay...so ive kept it like this for a couple hours now...went into my room and had a very faint wiff of it. i might just be paranoid now.
anyways i went up close to the lights and it still reaked...well 2 of them did..both ones with their own overhead reflectors though i dont think that plays a part as a bigger 40 w was just in it for a couple months just fine.......maybe the stank stuck to the fixture? i dunno man..im just letting the entire thing air out completely with fresh air coming in..fuckin trippin out and frankly kinda pissin me off now...

is it just the normal smell of the CFL? its not that strong anymore, does it not matter now?..i know my best option is to go by new sockets n whatnot, but for now that isnt an option...

cfl's are designed to fail safely, forget how they're rigged, but most will just stop working if their internals get mucked up

thats pretty damn comforting, the smell still makes me sick tho, n if i had pot that smelled like it id throw it away lol...lets just hope it dies off n doesn't fail/fire i guess....didnt realize how bright 3 23 w 6500 k are...eye killer

how long till i should see one pop...i can't really go off my last grow as i had wrong spectrum and minimal watts...got 5 seeds in the ground..only need 2 to make it

a couple already screwed up...seeds somehow got turned sideways n died off...weird, but oh well...a couple look like their starting to move up from the soil..but still no stems i can see

some seeds can be sneaky, they may have seemed to have died, but are just taking their time
carefully brush away the upper dirt from the seed location if you remember it, i mark my seeds with toothpicks so i can find them easily if needed
it may be struggling to shed the seed covering, which can be helped along carefully

hmm, i've always covered completely with dirt, but not too deep, 1/8 of an inch covering or so
but i see the idea of just putting the sprouting tip in, it's just not a method i've used
