Problem solved with good old fashion education. In fact, there wasn't even a problem. I'm firing up the vape.
THANKS to everyone for the help.

Nah, I ripped the hell out them. Ask me again in a couple days if it was the right move.
We discuss this more on this thread in organics: click here
My advice, I wouldn't do anything to your plants until you have "experienced" RIU guys look at every detail that makes up your grow and then listen to their recommendations.
Lol, you didnt stop after you notice you were cutting them?
It makes sense to do it, if you can keep from cutting the roots. But would people really recommend putting the plants through that stress?
Cant the roots that were ripped of get root rot and mess the soil?
The roots that broke where hair-like in size. Anything thicker stopped the rake.
I was gentle, just being dramatic because I'm paying WAY too much attention to PLANTS.
In the grand scheme of things, seems kinda silly when you look at it that way.
You surely did best. You do NOT want to kill the spore colonies or alter the conditions that fostered them. They are a sign all is well. The roots will thank you - watch.OK, so here is the wrap up of evaluating everyone's feedback and doing some more reading in the books.
I aerated the top 2" of soil and did not apply anything to prevent the growth of the saprophytic fungi. Because I have not transplanted the plants since they were seedlings, I chose to plunge down to the bottom with a metal rod to open up the air flow in my 3 gal containers.
If I killed them, lesson learned, and I will only listen to bmeat's advice from that point forward.

Hotrod you've been smoking and growing longer than I've been alive. I'm 45 and still learning. Not ashamed at all to admit that.
Beside, I like telling everyone you're older than dirt!![]()
Good on ya for just doing it at all. Watch the changes over the next couple weeks. I probe 5 to 6 holes daily. One hole = 1 push straight down. But feel free to take your knife and insert along the sides of the container and saw away any roots touching the sides. A smart bag would.
