Lumens dont add up with any bulbs then... MH, HPS... Doesnt matter...... and it IS 20,000 lumens.. It's just spread out, of course...... You can put them closer to the canopy... run cooler..... What are you trying to say?... That they should just buy a 4' 1 bulb, because it's just 5000 lumens anyways?... Of course it covering a larger area is important...... It's stupid for you to even bring this up..... What are you trying to prove, or have people do?... what is your point?..... It's like me saying 1 gallon of water can only feed 1 plant.... Having 4 gallons is useless because you only need 1...... NO... YOU ADD 3 MORE PLANTS, AND WATER 4 AT THE SAME TIME....hense, Veg 4 plants out under these 20,000 lumens..... And 2 of these lights IS 40,000 Lumens and will veg out 8 plants....... Surface area is just as important as penetration........ You might be able to grow deeper into the plant with HID's, but you can cover more area with T5's, so you'll get more top growth across a larger surface...... Not saying I use T5's for flower, but if i did, I can get the same watt per watt...... Of course it's cheaper to buy HPS or MH, but T5's are great for preveg and vegging out plants before you put them into 12/12 600w (in my case)

The point is to keep the facts straight. Get your light meter out and hold it anywhere you would like under those 4 bulbs and get it to read 20000 lumens. It wont, the highest it will ever read is 5000......

So your whole point is to hold out a light meter in front of the light, and not being able to get it to read over 5000?..... Who cares if it doesnt.... It's still 20,000 lumens spread across or not...

Just answer me this..... Will you be able to grow 20,000 lumens worth of bud under those 4 bulbs?........ Try growing the same amount using just 5000 lumens (1 bulb) then, and see if your logic works out.... or has any sense behind it....

and preveg is where you get your clones or seedlings well rooted.... Then true vegging starts... and may use all the wattage you want on them.... say you're putting them under 2000w.... You preveg and get them good enough roots, then veg them out...... .. I do preveg, and veg at the same place though

Sorry guys but your T-5s only put out 5000 lumens. You can fall for the hype and convince yourself it puts out more if it makes you feel better. Bottomline though is 5000 lumens. Preveg, first I have ever heard of this term when it comes to cultivation....

T5s work great for veg.

there is a such thing as "pre-veg" i've seen this word in mags, on bottles and nute schedules; he's not making it up and fuck it anyway! 5000 lumens is growing the shit out of my veg. plants i could use something else sure, but this is perfect for my situation

So you saying a flower room with 30 1000w's is only a 145k lumen room?..... I'm a HPS guy myself, and anyone can run these, it's not like if people cant choose from T5 to HPS.... But I at least have the brains to know that it doesnt have to do how many lumens each bulb puts out.... But the square footage, and how you place these lights.... You can place them an inch away.... Try that with a 1000w HPS.... Plus most people use them for veg and PREVEG.... Not flower, but I have seen amazing results on youtube with people using these T5's in flower with more than great results.... dont kid yourself... watch for yourself..

30x145,000=145,000 lumens. Not 4,350,000 lumens. And I said in my first post T-5 are great. And yes you can get a T-5 within an inch, you have too because anything over 6-8 inches and its pretty much useless, inverse square law. I just hate to see new growers fooled into thinking they have more light than they actually do. And if you think Cowboy has the mind of a bird you are an idiot. Now, I don't have the math on this, but I use 300W banks of t5s in my veg area. They are about 6-8 inches from my mothers (3 ft plants), and they do great. I've found that my cuttings need to be kept about 3 or 4 feet from them because the light is too intense. There is plenty of penetration from T5s.

Your statement should be qualified somehow. I really doubt the idea that there isn't any more light hitting the canopy @ 1 ft with two lamps next to each other as a single lamp. It just doesn't make sense.

if you have 1 1000w light with 4 plants under it,
and in the next room you have another 1000w light with 4 plants under it,
isn't that double the light, double the plants, double the ....LUMENS?

of course lumens dont "add up" with more bulbs, because the bulbs are exactly that MORE BULBS. unless you have a 500 watt bulb and then switched it to 1000w (hypothetically speaking) then the lumen reading under it would increase becuase you are outputting more light from the same source (bulb)....
but by adding more bulbs apart from each other you ARE adding more lumens, theyre just spread out over a wider surface area....



i know the Cowboy is a genius but this is kind of like an argument about the english language, and its confusing to new growers!

just becuase 2 x 5000lumen bulbs doesnt make 10000 lumens, doesnt mean you cant grow twice as much dope .

obviously, 245,000 lumens. you wont get that on a light meter holding it under both lights because theyre coming from two different sources (bulbs). they are producing both 100,000 and 145,000 lumens when turned on at the same time...... therefor 245,000 l. spread out over roughly double the square footage.
isn't this a ridiculously simple concept? lol

He may know how to grow, but he has no logic, and neither do you....

How can someone sit there and say adding more lights will not make it more lumens?.... Like everyone is saying.... It's not more than 5k of penetration, but it's 20k of spread out lumens, and that's all that matters....... Like I said..... It's like having 1 beer (say it's 5% Alcohol... Hense 1 T5 Bulb at 5k Lumens)..... Pour 4 of those same beers into a pitcher... Yes, Still 5% Alcohol, but of course It's gonna hit you harder than a single one..... THINK!..... His logic is pretty much saying you can drink all the beers you want, and you'll still only get the affect of drinking 1...

I get that some people are oldshool growers, and get upset at all this new technology, but they have to realize that HPS are NOT the only lights out there that produce the best cannabis..... Right now it's the most affordable, and still pretty much king, but soon enough it will be dethroned, just like everything else in the world that doesnt evolve..... started out... Soon enough there will be T4's... T2's or whatever they wanna call them.... with more penetration, and lower prices...... But, yes.... HPS will stay on top at least for the next 10 years, since it will just keep getting more affordable, and maybe still has room to improve bulbs and such...... LED is new technology for growing, but soon enoough they will find the right spectrums for perfect growing plants... As soon as they drop in price, and they can produce same quality nug as HPS, that's when I will jump aboard.... But till then.... HPS all the way...... But that's not the point of this reply..... LUMENS DO ADD UP, DAMMIT!
