Why are dj short genetics so expensive?

look at it this way. It can take 1-3 years to make a strain depending on hwo many crosses and back crosses. Then testing the strain for a year. Most breeders give out free testers when you buy an already released seed packs.. Some give them out to everybody. Its a lot of work to do selective breeding..

So you spend a $100 on a pack of seeds, How much money do you make off those seeds once you grow them?. If you drop a half zip you just made your money back. Its good genetics you won't find in any dispensary.

If you are going to complain about the price of seeds. You should also complain about the price of flowers, lights, nutrients, etc...

Also when you buy those seeds from a seed bank, you are paying the seed bank cost. Not the breeders. Well known reputable breeders get cashed out at a whole sale price. Newer breeders usually do consignment with those seed banks..

If you want a cheaper price on seeds. Then pick up sees from a cannabis cup. They're cheaper there. Or make your own...

Actually Sensi seeds is a rip off for some of their better lines Jack Herrer and Mr. Nice (G13xhashplant) and a few others even Big Bud is over priced to me.
True, I feel Sensi also overcharges for many of their strains. Once exception is their Mexican Sativa which is dirt cheap, but carries a nice buzz. Not a heavy yielder, but it's good head-stash for the Sativa fan.

I don't have a problem paying $100 for a pack of seeds. I have a problem paying $100 for a pack of crap. You're focusing on only the money spent to buy the seeds, and leaving out the time it takes to grow those plants and the space it takes up in the garden. That's way more valuable than $100. If I end up with a bunch of rubbish I've lost more than just my $100.

The other thing is it seems that a lot of the more expensive seeds produce inferior results compared to less expensive ones. Why is that? In what other industry would a company get away with charging double the price for a crappier product?

It's really amateur hour at this stage of the game IMO. Wait until shit goes legal and corporate America steps in. Do you think any of those executives will tolerate their breeders being on pot forums bickering with potential customers? lol

I was referring to the better breeders. This thread as old as it is , it's asking about dj short. He's one of the better breeders. I would no way endorse shitty breeders. I just wouldn't say anything about them unless I had an unhappy experience. But even with good breeders. You can still get some crap. It's just the crosses don't take sometimes.

From exotic, Mint chocolate chip and darks side of the moon are fire. But Adonis and gut buster were horrible. They both had 1 hermie. The end product sucked on the other phenos. Adonis grows slower than WiFi og.

Tga you already know.

Redeyed genetics. Mt rainier is alright. Just not my flavor. Strong piney flavor. Big yielder. Very frosty. But kobain kush tasted horrible and hermied. . But yielded great. Locktite and dog trap are fire.

Dj short. Blueberry is fire . Frosty. Small yielder. Whitaker blues same . But not flavor .

Sin city. One pheno of nightmare cookies was a good yielder. No frost. Tasted bad. Another pheno very frosty and tasted great. White nightmare was horrible and had the same issues as the white and WiFi og.

Homegrown natural wonders. Quantum kush, dr. Who, tardis. All fire.

I'm running my first of grateful gardens and gage green. So can't say anything yet.
.
Norstar. All good. Just old school flavors. Their cbd strains are unstable though.

Cali connection went down hill a long time ago

Back in the day I ran strains from Dutch passion, soma, sensi, green house, sagmartha, flying Dutchman, spice of life and nirvana. All fire except nirvana. I'm running some sensi gear again . Just germed afghani 1. Now green house isn't what it used to be Dutch passion went down hill. Sens is hit or miss.

Dna went down hill. But they bounced back with some strains.

I haven't had a chance to try bodhi but I want to.

Very few breeders are working with pure or close to genetics. Just polyhybrids they got from other breeders. Some breeders share the same clones amongst other breeders. Hardly any of them work an f2 or f3 for a base strain. These days it's mostly it's all poly f1's.

Now that's my last rant for the day.

Very true bro, nothing pisses me off more than wasting time, energy, space, and nutes on strains that are simply poor performers genetically. Had this problem with some freebies I ran indoors last year. Many of them simply were not worth the effort, as the end product Sucked Balls. Good thing I ran some proven strains along with them, or the entire project would have been a waste of time.

I didn't read the whole thread, I only read like 6 comments. Forgive me for repeating what I'm sure has been said. Old World Genetics is a small company, what we release is exclusive. We do not cash crop (seeds or flower) and we do not pollen chuck. Our gear is stabilized to the degree its advertised to be. The stabilization and selection process is specific to the traits we wish to refine. The amount of work, effort, time and resource put into each strains is unprecedented. We give our stock an heirloom classification. It does not perform with the typical 'hybrid vigor' that many are used to from the cash cropped and pollen chucked F1's and F2's available . But again, this is because the selection process was refined to traits other than heavy production or cash cropping.

if you had good germination rates in past you would be a much bigger company. even if you admitted to it maybe a big company in future lol facing the truth is growing
Nothing gets released from OWG that doesn't hit 90+ percent germination rate. Are seeds a challenge to germinate? Yup. Are heirloom seeds more difficult to germinate than hybrid? Yup.

I don't think they are expensive as long as you get what is advertised, if you order DJ Short blueberry and you don't find a pheno that has blueberry out of one pack then I would say fuckem not worth it. However if you found one that stank like the blueberry berry berry than it would be all worth it.

Looks like a Blueberry descendent of some kind or another to me. ;-) bongsmilie
I noticed that you are on instagram and I really dont do that type of social media lol. Could you explain OWG to me? Did you father retire, and you are in charge now? Can you talk about some of the work that you have been doing?

I think that I need a IG account to even look at the site!!!

Dj has not retired. He's gearing up for his next breading endeavor, and it's gonna be a big one. OWG is the official name of our company. I am reticent to discuss my work here because I was asked not to out of respect for the 'paying contributors' of the site, of which I am not, and I would like to respect what has been asked of me. All's I can say in regard to information pertaining to my and Dj's work....get yerself plugged in! lol Thanks for asking.

Are you allowed to talk Azure Haze? I have been looking at it for a while now! One generation closer to BlueBerry than BlueDream. Or better yet, what do you smoke? When asked the same thing in a interview, Shantibaba said Mango Haze. What would your response be to the same question? I always ask the waiter at a restaurant what their favorite dish is, and it usually turns out well lol...
