Please list the mental conditions that should exclude people from firearms ownership. Does a doctor have to make this determination?
Who takes possession of guns from those who are unworthy? Does ownership transfer?
What if the person gets better? When/how can they get their guns back?
Most institutions don't allow their patients access to weapons.

there are far better ways to harm/kill (mass) people then guns. in fact, if you want to inflict a lot damage: I think guns are really a poor choice. (now that I'm on some list for typing that)

anyways the problem here is not the delivery of doom, but the cause. our mental health system is piss poor, in the light of countries like japan of other well funded health care societies see a lot less of this kind of stuff.

I mean, our mental sanitariums are in the open streets. we closed and keep closing programs, and hospitals for people to find help. or make it out of reach because of cost.

the fact that he used a GUN, if the very least of the problems in this incident. why people keep pointing at guns is beyond me, because if its one thing we know for a fact, is gun laws don't work

if someone really set their mind to harming people, I would think guns would only be a small part of it.

just think of what he could have done, by jumping the curb smashing the chain link fence and driving a food truck GT5 style all over general admission.......
But he didn't. He chose guns. Try to think real hard and maybe you will figure out 'why'. Don't hurt yourself though.

On second thought, go for it.

the fact "WHY" he chose any method to kill people, WHY he did so is what needs to be figured out.

this social aberration, of action in reason; be it crazy or malevolent is the problem.

NOT, how someone chooses to execute public acts of murderous dissention.

guns work fine, I think he proved that, what is not working is our current society and how we treat people in it.

Guns are efficient, concealable, long range, relatively cheap, and easy to access.

That's why they choose guns, and it is undeniably part of the problem.

Helping people afford and access mental health providers is another part, I'm sure we agree on that.

They are still working on the motive. But I wonder why the focus on determining "why"? Our gun laws don't prevent even a clearly demented person from owning a gun. It's nice to know but nothing can be done without changing gun laws and addressing our society's acceptance of gun violence.

it's not another part, it's the main component. Automatic rifles have existed for decades yet violence of this magnitude is a more recent occurrence. Guns haven't changed, the object is to find out what has and correct it.

Not unreasonable.

you clearly lack imagination or scope of what is technologically possible; and how low the mortality bar is set.

I'm not talking anymore, makes my stomach turn; but what if the Great White show at the Station nightclub wasnt an accident.....

You clearly lack common sense.

"Sure, every mass murderer in the US uses guns, but think about if they rented a U-haul!"

What an imagination.

say the guy found out he had terminal cancer. lots of gambling lately, sent money overseas to girlfriend etc.

if only his doctor knows about the diagnosis, can the doctor make that public? or is that covered under patient confidentiality stuff??

just curious. have no inside info or anythgin.

It would be nice to know. What would we do with the information? I don't think the NRA will allow any changes. Even when the gunman is clearly mentally disturbed as in Sandy Hook. No changes were allowed. The right even put out fake news to cloud the issue in Sandy Hook.

I advocate change but don't expect this congress to do anything.

Like most Americans, I'm somewhere in the middle on the gun issue.
It is sad when people with strong opinions about guns, embarrass themselves with a complete lack of knowledge on the subject.
Examples:
Calling rifles with detachable magazines "Assault rifles". (Assault rifles are fully automatic by definition.)
Calling assault rifles "machine guns", simply because they are fully automatic.
:dunce::dunce:

And now I have a question for everyone bitching about firearms:
Exactly what do you want? (Be specific because details matter.)
Full background checks, mag capacity limits, registry for anything above and beyond self defense and hunting capabilities, moratorium on military grade firearms.

reverse the deinstitutionalization of America and focus on the mental well-being of Americans. Those mentally incapable of functioning within society and pose a risk to the general public should be treated as such.
Mental illness exists in all nations but a single old white guy shooting 600 people in one sitting doesn't you bloating racist fucktard.

Why don't other countries with the exact same mental health issues have the same gun massacres?
