That's pretty interesting. As AN is not a public nor american company it's pretty hard to know exactly what's going on with "ownership"/control. That said, Mike moved the company over to Europe to be with Gino & Robert, so will he now be returning the company to Canada It's honestly hard to believe that Mike would defend these cats so vehemently on international TV and then boot them from the company only months later. I guess the interim "Holiday Heroes" campaign didn't work out as planned ...

I have seen this video countless times and was very disturbed by it as well. I think Mike made a big mistake by attempting to defend that sick fuck. Mike had to know however that the only way to save the company from the shit storm was to play nice with him until he could buy the pedophile out. If he would have thrown him under the bus from the beginning I think the buyout would have not happened so fast or at all.

AN is a BC company run by gangsters. Half of them can't even go into certain countries. They have different reps for different countries because of this.

Interesting story I heard from someone who has been around this area a very long time (hydro shop owner been growing legally since it was legal to do so in Canada and long before that).

When they were relatively new, they wanted to buy a fertilizer plant in BC. The person refused to sell. A week later it was burned to the ground. Just a coincidence though, right?

I was always a little hesitant about sharing that story, because you know, it's just a story and I haven't bothered to look up supporting details. But fuck it. Defending a child molestor? Disgusting.

I'm rockin the old school HPS, and will not spend money to replace them until they take a shit (these fuckers seem like they'll never die). Admittedly I'm no expert on the various options here, but Im surprised to see so many people down on LED technology. There are quite a few threads here and elsewhere that I've stumbled on that portray a very comparable LED product to HID. They are of course more expensive upfront to buy, but what are the main drawbacks aside from initial investment? I was under the assumption that they are more efficient to run, and generate a lot less heat. No?

And I'll start giving a shit about green energy subsidies when they stop subsidizing the über-profitable oil industry.

Well, define efficiency? Because I look at it as G/W and I've never seen an LED approach what a good HPS setup is capable of. I've seen old grows from overgrow by Heath where he almost hits 3g/watt. Best I've seen with an LED is around a gram/watt.

They aren't really more efficient, they just generate less heat. They are a hell of a lot more expensive. The new double ended ballast bulbs last quite a bit longer though than the old digital versions.

Same guy who told me the story about the fertilizer plant had AN deliver an entire truck load of nutrients to him after he specifically told them not to and then they hounded him for the payment of it (after he sent it back, which he had to pay to do and attempted to get reimbursed for as well - that never happened by the way, it wasn't worth it to him to take them to court).

Their distribution is definitely not Ideal especially for small shops that are not certified retailers. Their reps make 100% commission, so when your friend went to return the product he has to deal directly with him, and that situation means the rep looses his paycheck. I work in a hydro shop I am very familiar with how they operate...

I get amazing results using some of their products and the cost is barely felt. Other products are a waste of money and I will inform people when I think so. I would take your stories a little more seriously if you were not a stranger on the internet and if it was a first hand experience.

Back to the topic at hand though, just found out my shop is getting double ended sockets in the next month or two, so I will be putting them in my experimental tent sometime in September. From everything I understand they seem to be a much better light when it comes to PAR than standard HID bulbs and last longer, but heat is the only thing I keep on hearing is a bitch.

I dont own the store, but that will never happen. We have many large growers in MI who use their products, so the shop makes too much money off it. I use what works, and it just so happens that some of their products are better than other things on the market.

Bud Candy is a piece of shit synthetic preservative that makes everything taste the same, you could just run sugaree which is the same shit but organic without the synthetic preservatives.

I am going to put them on a light rail 5 over
a Titan flo n gro bucket system.
Advanced Nutrients connoisseur/ grand masterbater lineup.
Gorilla Glue #4 cuttings.

I just helped a friend take down a 24 light room all last night. He absolutely crushed with gavita 600's on light rails
over 3x6 beds. If he did not hit 2gpw on some beds this run it is definitely within the realm of possibility at some point.
He did 60 per bed on most strains when he could have done 70, he also lolli popped too much. Bud density was really,
really good on the bottom branches.

I have to start coming up with a new game plan after I get some sleep today.

I have a customer who bought 8 of the Gavita Pro 600 (non dual ended). They were running two rooms. 1st room 8-1000W in air cooled tubes 2nd room 8 x 600W Gavita Pros. With the 600's they had to lift them quite high as the plants didn't like it. When they cropped the 1000W room got 1lb per light the 600W got 1.5 lb per light.

They are doing a second run right now just to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

BTW talked to a Hortilux rep and their dropping DE bulbs in the coming months that he said we going to give off less heat than the Gavita's....

A cooled, but open reflector like Sunlight Supply's AC/DE hood coupled with a high quality remote digital ballast would likely be your best bet to get right down into your canopy leaving you to deal with only the extreme intensity of the PAR.

I know of a Well-Known Member here test running that exact scenario and will likely hear of their successes shortly. I am very interested in how the light mover will perform as I can not figure out the effective watts per square inch given the dynamic movement. Any serious mathematicians here

I use light rails and I really like them. Not so much for increasing the footprint, but just having those lights moving 18-24 inches over head prevents any hot spots from happening

Like Stow already said light rails definitely do prevent hot spots and bleaching. I thought you leaning
towards not getting DE's because of 8ft ceilings. With traditional hps on movers I was always under
the assumption you lose flower density and trichome production. After seeing that room last week I
know non air cooled DE's on movers have enough power to increase an already large footprint.

As far watts per sqft I think you would just have to experiment, a light meter would not even be much help.

I honestly sat there for a couple minutes trying to figure out how to calculate it...

It'd be an ugly function that would spit out a number that you could probably get pretty close to by guesstimating

The problem I see with that reflector is the air flow is more than likely not perfectly sealed off from the room, sucking out the stank, co2 and sucking in hot air through small cracks in the room. Plus the exhaust fan. Seems easier and more logical to just over size the ac a bit and not air cool the hoods. You might exhaust 10% of the BTUs on a good day with that hood, And even less if ran in series.
