i lived in mn when i was going to school, when we turned 17 we started making road trips to Canada in my buddies station wagon. we'd load that bitch up with cases of molsen xxx and moosehead, and be fucked up for days. their beer was between 5 and 7%, while the best you could get in Mn or ND was 3.2...I sure feel fortunate to have lived through the microbrew renaissance that started in Portland in the 80's. Now it's nationwide but at the time everyone was drinking swill. I quickly turned into a beer snob. The good thing back then was nobody would ask me for a beer. People would come over and I'd offer them a beer typically an IPA which they would refuse and instead ask me how I could drink that stuff. I remember asking a friend drinking MGD Light how he could drink that stuff. He told me he liked the taste. I said what taste.
we'd drive close to the border and take a dirt road to Emerson Manitoba, where they never once asked for an id...and they took a deposit, so we'd bring our empty cases back full of bottles and get the first couple of 2-4s free...
