Gun control is coming

Never bring a toy gun to a gun fight

the headshot is a little off putting, but technically you are supposed to shoot to kill not shoot to maim. Once you remember the guy showed up with a “gun” to rob everyone enjoying their meal striking fear into innocent patrons it’s more palatable.

I do think the armed citizen should have called police and waited instead of just leaving though

i think one would have been enough, and he should have stayed to talk to the cops...but otherwise, this was absolutely no loss to humanity. zero tears shed.

Shooting the guy initially to end the threat would not be the issue. It was the Coup de grace head shot that was unnecessary. He had the right to end the threat, but not to execute.
They will probably find something in his past, he was a cold blooded killer. Just because you have the right to do something doesn't mean you should.

The flaw in stand your ground law is people are given license to kill without demonstrating they know the law, or capable of following it at a moment of high stress.
And it’s not something for which one can effectively train. The military can drill a squad or a company or a crew to high technical proficiency, but there is no way to really prepare for the first experience of battle and its unique and severe psychological effects.

Civil War vets spoke of “having seen the elephant”. I do not know if this is true, but I can imagine the phrase coming from pre-imperial Rome, when the defending legions made contact with the Carthaginian expeditionary force and its very heavy cavalry.

Illinois Bans Semiautomatic Weapons
Illinois banned the sale or possession of semiautomatic weapons Tuesday when Gov. J.B. Pritzker signed legislation driven largely by the killing of seven people at a 4th of July parade last year in the Chicago suburb of Highland Park.
