Is the End Near? For fossil fuels?

No worries mate. However, having traveled all over the world in the military I think I have a pretty good feel for whats going on out there. And while I don't agree with you, I don't think what you are saying could be all that wrong, but it could be wrong. IMO we have pulled all the low hanging fruit and must use new technologies to figure out how to supply the world. Were a smart bunch someone will come up with something.

There have been 3 oil centered economic events in the last century. Two in the 70's and one a few years ago. Considering the value of energy to a global economy, anyone who figures out anything will be an instant trillionaire. 40 years and no one has come up with anything. We aren't all that smart.

I used to use a hydrogen generator in our lab back about five years ago. It operated by electrolysis (plugged in to 110v outlet) of distilled water...and would keep a small tank filled to about 50-80 psi. I think it costs about $100K if I recall correctly. Problem was that it's slowwww. We used it to do hydrogenation reactions...replaced the hydrogen lecture bottles that we used to rent and get refilled regularly. Not sure if it really saved them any money...maybe by now, if they're still using it.

There are definitely issues with using hydrogen (condensed or just under presssure) in motor vehicles, for sure. I always wondered if they couldn't equip an auto with rooftop solar panels and a small hydrogen generator that would operate some electrical functions of the vehicle AND electrolyse water to fill a small hydrogen tank for times when the sun isn't shining (like at night). Probably too complicated (or too slow), but hey, it was just a stoner vision I had one time, lol.

I am sorry to say but in 300 years we will be burning wood on the ruins of a once great civilization and telling stories to our children about the Gods who flew through the air and had power beyond all imagining. The end of cheap energy is closer than a lifetime away. I fear it will be much much sooner and try as I might I have not figured out a way to prepare for it myself.
paranoid much? as nuclear becomes more avanced we will have nuke powered cars and planes similar to the subs. your "theory" of running out of energy is as credible as global warming.....not so much.

So he knew how to harness this energy even though he didn't know quantum physics, and conveniently, the knowledge is lost to modern man. NoDrama, it is a wonderful story but about as likely as the 125 mile per gallon carburetor.
i had a motor cycle that got over 100 mph pretty regular. it had a carburator.

I had a 1985 Honda CRX HF, 58 MPG city , 67 hwy. They could never build it now, all those safety items would double the weight.
no they couldnt build it now. but you just gotta know that they are saving the planet hahahahaha. yes, saving the planet.

THere you go, so every accident will leave a radioactive trail and every car will have half a ton of lead shielding - that is if anyone could afford such a thing. There are reasons that things are the way they are in the present AND the future. Gee, Your Tom Swift future is swell.

If you lived in LA in the 60's then you would easily acknowlege that such measures changed the air here. I doubt you would have liked breathing that crap.

Thats because there was to much low hanging fruit, they didn't HAVE to come up with something. nessacity it the mother of inventions. I know I can't spell. when and if, and as far as i'm concerned thast not in my lifetime, they will come up with something to refine those tar sands and shale. when gas is 10 dollars a gallon the enviroment won't mean as much. Not saying thats good just stating a fact.

In the last 10 years there has been a 1/3rd increase in the global number of drilling rigs. In that same time we have been pumping less and less oil. Drill baby drill is pretty hollow in the face of that simple series of facts. Another fact is that if we cannot make an energy equation positive then no amount of ingenuity is going to get that oil out of the shale or sand.

And you know this how?

Well odumbass just gave brazil 2 billion of our tax dollars to drill for oil. We will be their best customers. And the fucker want let us drill here, makes me wonder how much oil we have in the USA. But if I were you I would run out and fill my tank before we run out. LMAO

Oh I forgot we can always use corn to drive our SUVs.

you don't really know, no one does. So what the hell lets drill and find out..

The corn doesn't work - for the same reason shale or tar sands don't work, negative energy yields. Obama's actions may or may not have a correlation with how much oil we have in the U.S.

What is it with people and their attitude that we can't know anything? Do you really believe there are giant pools of oil somewhere that we don't know about or will simply discover just in time? We can know that land masses not in politicaly unstable areas have all been prospected - no oil there. We have checked most off shore contenental shelf areas - some oil. What is discovered or tapped are ever smaller pools. Our finds grow smaller and rarer all the time and you still think we will stumble upon a saudi size find?
