defoliation? yes/no and techniques

I did something like that DM, but I cut only side branches,
leaving the fan leaves to fall off on their own.

...but I live in a coastal desert, so PM is less of an issue for me.

Good luck,

JD

P.S. They do seem to be coming out all right:

Wow when this turn into a hate tread look we're here to share experience not say who's wrong who's right if I get 30oz dried I'm goin to pluck if u get wat u get hey and also I used the EXACT same environment to do my test but whatever if u like it I love it but plz don't kill my vibe#kendricklamarvoice kuzz I'm yelling plz dnt kill my vibe and supertramp those r sum nice bitches but "pics on boards mean nil " and from genetics my current strain is most likely not urs and bushier than what ur growing making more compact therefore needing mild(10-15 leaves per) defoliation

Call me an idiot, which I am sure some will, but I grow with 3 gal pots touching in a 4x4 area and my plants usually are about 4 feet tall. With such a close area ( 16 plants) I trim off the lower fans and some of the middle to uncover bud sites there. I leave alone all the upper leaves and with a proper diet they do alright. I just finished some Ultimate and got about 3.5 per plant, which is good enough for me. I think though if I had the area to space them out more, I wouldn't trim and let nature run it's course, but my grow room ain't really nature.

Fresh that s*#t look nice brodie and shit is icey and +Rep for posting some meds like that in my post Gudd example of defoliation and Jim I'm in the same spot 4*4 with 11 but I striped my tent now +no cover) its more space as I com in flower I still have them reasonably tight s.o.g type close to 3ft bushy indica 1503 og so I do wat I need to do I feel u bro

I do that too Jim. LOL, I am just getting going, and in my excitement, I stuff the tent. :0)

I have 30 plants in 2 gallon smart pots, plus the two breed's mothers in two of the corners,
in my only slightly larger tent.

It still works. Good luck!

JD

P.S. I also took growth from the bottom third, lollipopping my plants, though I took
only branches. The fan leaves that far down are all falling off over time, but this is
fine by me.

it's all good, thanks for being kind about it. definitely got much more to post up, just have to put pics on flash drive before i can do so. unlike these dudes, my skills continue to evolve while they continue to grow them easy commercial strains and post pics as if they're doing something.

here are some pics of the end of my current run of Ghost Rider OG, first ever run in coco too. as you can see, she a very leafy pheno, and had to be heavily defoliated in veg and all throughout bloom.

Very nice, grown like a pro. Peace
Jim, thanks. i got plenty of more to post, so be on the look out. also, as you will see, most of them pro growers have been growing much longer than me but you will see that the quality of plants outshines theirs.

Wow. Re tar ded.
i knew someone like you would say something of the sort when someone put their money where their mouth is. fact of the matter is i know what i am doing and have proof to back my claims. you dudes on this site swear everyone is a total noob, which in most part is true, and think that you can put up a few paragraphs as if everything you say in them is right and anything that is in contrast to it are wrong.

i sit back and think how your partner in crime actually stated that most can't grow or keep a plant healthy, but yet he post pics of some commercial that clearly looks underfed with some time to go. when i am back on, i will post pics of plants 9wks into 12/12 that are completely healthy that are soon to get the chop, just to show you'll how it's done.

tbh, in all honesty, i also understand where you're coming from when it comes to dealing with members on this board in particular. there are too many noobs trying advance techniques without even mastering the basics yet and this type of topic only adds to the confusion amoungst these noobs. i think that a lot of the members here need to step back and really learn how to effectively read plants before they venture off into any form of advance techniques.

Don't come at me with what my "partner in crime said" or some other such bs... You're attacking the straw man. That is what people like you do best.

But, you seriously think the pictures you just posted there is the bomb digity? Really? Don't get me wrong, the buds look nice or whatever, but they are popcorn nugs. I don't care what you say. AlexanderSuperTramp's looks better by far, awesome long frosty colas.

I was simply trying to have a nice, friendly, logical debate here about the subject and listen to you. Of course, you wouldn't realize what an arrogant loser you are being with that language, but others will. You can't even tell me what exactly "defoliation" encompasses or how it works or why it is better than any of the alternatives.

Nope. Nothing of the sort. Just some pathetic pictures of your "chunky" popcorn nugs and such eloquence as this.
you 2 lames thrill me, lol, i guess you put a few paragraphs together makes you're point valid. since you know so much and can provide so much info, prove to us non believers that defoliating doesn't work. and please don't bore us with your assumptions because that just doesn't work for me. just because you write a thesis talking about something you have no idea about, doesn't make you or your partner lack of experience any more valid than your previous statements.

listen to you, photos on line doesn't mean zilch, but here you are quoting some shit from the 60's as if it stills applies til today. but check this out, i am going to do this just for you, i am going to provide pics of a grow documented from beginning to end where the plant was defoliated with no nodes taken off for the whole grow and every bud from top to bottom is fully developed and in chunks.
Sounds a lot like a prissy Catholic trying to debate with an athiest "well you prove to me God doesn't exist!". But yes, I articulate; what is your problem with that? Why can't you do the same? Because people often write theses about things they know absolutely nothing about, right?

Still sitting here wonder wtf I quoted from the 60's. Or am I supposed to be eagerly awaiting you to show me how it is done?? 2

Really it is just like, you can only chat with a wall for so long... when you've got weed to grow.

But I am supposed to stop, document my illegal activities, post them on the internet and potentially assist the prosecution, Riiiiight.

Oh, and by the way... trimming the bush doesn't make the tree bigger, just makes it appear bigger. ;-)
seaofwhat4wks.png

These are at about 4 weeks into a 9 week flowering period. Strain is Eva Seeds Monster, so we expect things to size up nicely. A central high-wattage CFL or HO-T5's will light the inner\undersides of the canopy.

These flowers really have grown in quite nice and compact, so far, tight leaf structure. Used a metal halide that puts out a really nice, white, balanced-spectrum light; up until just recently. Now they will finish under high pressure sodium (supposedly with "enhanced blue spectrum") and they should just about triple in size by the time they are done.

Really, if you want more compact buds and better yields, you might consider such things things as changing your lighting spectrum, intensity of light, decreasing temperatures, etc. Go air-cooled and keep your lights 6-8" away. Use a better reflector. Use a better bulb. Use side lighting.

Remember, white walls and mylar are for reflectivity so more light gets to the plants. That is also what the reflector\hood of the lighting system is supposed to be designed to do. All of these things will enhance the quality of the finished product more than "defoliation". If not, prove it to me.

Looks good man. You do the same way I do. Train the moms with some trimming here and there. The clones taken are used to the trimming. Clip a few here and few there. These I effing people with this " defoliation means bare sticking the thing" are fucking tards.

so green and healthy, very nice:clap:

... because that isn't defoliating?
Umm... I didn't see a quantitive measurement under the definition of the term defoliation. If one leaf is removed, that is the removal of foliage. Therefore, it has been defoliated. There is a line between ripping your plants to shreds ( what you schmucks say us defoliation) and defoliating properly to help assist the plant as best as we think we can. Just as every grower does by removing the weak lower stems, topping, fim'ing, etc. all in how people choose to do their thing. As previously stated, I know what works for me.

Of course people only see the information in front of them that proves their point and makes them feel all warm and cozy on the inside. It's a typical human condition to see only what you want to make your argument more logical to yourself. That's why I've given up talking about this with most people because hey are just so closed off to new ideas because they read from all these other people the same bullshit that everyone else says instead of actually testing what works for them in their rooms. Those of you that believe in not touching a single leaf, good for you, I'm not hopping on that idiot band wagon so let that thing just keep on Rollin by.
