Happened to me too around 3. but with 38 plants. (grow in my signature) It happens. Sorry. A lot of times, the hermed plant won't affect the one next to it hardly (might have a few seeds) but of course this depends on how many male flowers, air circulation, proximity, etc.

Good job on the "emergency surgery" as someone else called it. I don;t know if silica would have helped in this case, but I do know it toughens up stems, quite a bit. I personally use DynaGro Protekt but there are other brands. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Also good for drought...
