Need Coffee Grounds for your Compost?

Seems to be a lot of conflicting info out there. Your article states that coffee grounds are very acidic while others say it is PH neutral. In any case I'm ok with acidic since I'm probably balancing that with the alkalinity of my wood ash.

start of flowering - first hairs are brown

I've never used Biobloom but I just looked it up and it's a 2-7-4. This makes me wonder why you would you use such an N-poor fertilizer to treat an N deficiency. Maybe some fish emulsion or diluted urine would be more effective?

Need Coffee Grounds for your Compost?

Both you an Indican3 mentioned this and I thought the same thing. But getting brown materials never seems to be an issue - it's the green I tend to be short on. Then I started doing some reading today and now I'm really confused. I have found a couple sources that list the C:N ration of coffee...

    Post your tomatoes

Here is the ugliest tomatoe you've ever seen. All of my brandywines from that plant have some sort of deformity on the bottoms - but none like this. Looks normal from the top... But turn it over and... From what I've read, it could be a genetic mutation that affects 1 in 1000 seeds. I suspect...

    Canada grow log 2016

That was legendary. It was perfectly Gord. My girlfriend has just started learning calligraphy and has challenged herself to post a calligraphic (is that a word?) work every day for a year on Instagram. This is day seventeen of her inky journey... Edit: Here's the one she posted...

Need Coffee Grounds for your Compost?

I was thinking the same thing. Too much coffee grounds might skew the ratio too far toward the N side of things. Nevertheless, carbon materials are so easy to come by that it's a nice problem to have. So when I got to the Starbucks and spoke to 'Elaine' who was the one that would be holding it...

Need Coffee Grounds for your Compost?

I just discovered on another gardening forum that Starbucks has a "Grounds for your Garden" program where they give out complimentary 5lb bags of coffee grounds upon request. I just called up a Starbucks that I will be passing by on my way home today and asked about it. A really nice lady named...

    Post your tomatoes

I don't know if you can tell from this pic taken in the dark last night with my headlamp, but I just picked a whopper! It's a mortgage lifter heirloom. Wish I had a scale, but maybe 2lbs?

compost without bin? + my first organic mix list

I would discourage you from using peat moss. I love the stuff as an amendment in my alkaline clay soil here, but harvesting peat moss is a real and present environmental threat. Peat stores/traps a large percentage of the earth's carbon dioxide and it is released when the moss is harvested. The...

    Candy Striped Leaf Hoppers Help!!

Glad I found this thread. I found a couple of these guys on my plant this morning along with another bug that is a it bigger but brown. I do believe it's also a leafhopper but a different variety. Could y'all help confirm this? Also wondering if the Dawn solution would work. I also have an...

Are you in BLOOM Yet? Tis the month!

Very interesting considering I have been trying to find out what strain it is I'm growing. I haven't heard about this before. If it is sativa leaning then that could present problems with finishing before the frost hits. Here's a pic from this morning. What do you think Fastslappy? Is this in...

Using berries and apples to make fertilizer

From what I've read, it's very stable and according the Unconventional Farmer site should last for "years" . I would keep it in a cool dark place above freezing.

Are you in BLOOM Yet? Tis the month!

I really wish I knew. The guy I got the clone from could only tell me that it is a kush. That's as much as I know on strain unfortunately

Using berries and apples to make fertilizer

Thanks ...yeah I sort of did that actually - I attached cheesecloth over the top of one of those buckets and let it drain through for a couple hours. Still messy though. For sugar I used a combo of molasses and brown sugar.

Using berries and apples to make fertilizer

You're welcome. I just finished making a batch. Strained it out using cheesecloth tonight. Messy smelly job. I used cantaloupe, papaya, banana, coconut, pomegranate , and ground cherries. Good luck!
