Coco: Tips, techniques, and the facts you will need

Thanks jarvid, That was useful information. I may not start emulating your style...but it's good to know how wide the range of styles is...that will work in coco. I'm going to try and utilize some organic supplements this grow. Probably have to toss it after that. JD

    Droopy clones

Noto, There was a Canadian clone study a year or so back. They were looking at different techniques. The only thing I now do different when I clone...is to remove a few leaflets rather then an entire leaf. Retains the petiole and probably less stressful to plant. See picture. JD

    So mother lickers

Guy, OK...I understand your situation better. I would estimate...as others have....that with a fast growing strain (ie-not a landrace sativa) you will need about 2 weeks extra time on the front end. What you need to look into for gender identification is cloning for gender. I never trust...

    So mother lickers

Hi Guy, Genetics is always at play. So you're looking for a shorter stocky plant. Look seriously into manifold training. It takes more time so start earlier. It's just a combination of lst and topping...fairly easy. You'll get some strong stems. JD

Coco: Tips, techniques, and the facts you will need

Hi Jarvid, Not everybody has an outdoor place to dump used coco. It's easy to flush and re-use. Curious to know if you have any issues with salts...allowing your coco to dry a bit. When you water...how much runoff you looking for? JD

Coco: Tips, techniques, and the facts you will need

I don't bother adjusting ph on the calmag soak...and I let it soak usually half a day...but some guys only do a few hours. Sounds like you have a plan. Did I answer all your questions? JD

    Too much water or heat?

Mornin' Anon, It isn't laying flat...could still survive. Mostly I wanted to suggest that you put some space between the heat mat and solo cups. I use a small tray with a few chopsticks under it. The heat mats can get too hot and cause problems. JD

Coco: Tips, techniques, and the facts you will need

Hi Danion, I just use the calculations for mixing one gallon x however many gallons x 1.5 I'd suggest 200 or so ppm...maybe go .4 ec on the 500 scale. But that's over and above whatever your tapwater ec is. JD

How did i do? Iso oil

Sounds like it worked for you. I mostly do edibles so after evaporation...I dissolved it into oil and made cookies with it. Mine looked similar to yours but a little smoother. Same color. The weed was a strong sativa...and one single qwet wash (test run) using freezer method gave me 30...

How did i do? Iso oil

Chronic, I also made my first batch...only using the qwet method. Just did open evaporation. This final evap you referred to...is that with heat and vacuum to get bubbles of solvent out? JD

this is who i have to deal with...

Kgp, Interesting and thoughtful post. I have to agree. Years ago, in my first year of college...ok, ok...it was 1968...I remember reading about a clear cut relationship between social unrest and the amount of welfare. Any period of unrest has been followed immediately by a boost in social...

this is who i have to deal with...

hanimal, I'm an old 60s guy and back then, interest in Buddhism was high. I chose my career as an expression of "right livelihood", and in addition, I chose to work in under-served areas. Juvie hall was just one of those places which included prisons and mental hospitals. I worked at Juvie...

this is who i have to deal with...

Hi Guys, Maybe the subtleties of hillbilly behavior is lost on me...but I have my own experiences with welfare mothers of juvenille delinquents. Worked at large urban city Juvenille Hall providing health care to the little thugs. Occasionally...if we had to send a kid out to a specialist...

Coco: Tips, techniques, and the facts you will need

Maybe this is true for very young plants...but most experienced growers do not allow coco to dry during flowering. By generative...I assume you mean vegetatively... JD

    Droopy clones

Cheech...I'm with ilecato on removing leaves. It can make the difference between a clone living or dying. If a new clone droops badly...either back under a dome or trim some leaflets. And I know clones are supposed to be tough as adult plants...still ffof is a little strong sometimes. Maybe...
