The difference is 150 watts. (sorry. had to.) The ballast generates heat. A remote ballast (not built into HID) placed outside your grow area will help keep temps down.

GE will work fine! I veg with T5 HO, but if I was switch my HID bulb out, I would just get one at a big box store (Home Depot, Lowes, etc.) I think they stock Philips lamps.
