lol waiting 34 mins for an answer before bumping is kinda bad etiquette. Your plant should be fine. It might have a bit of shock for a day or two but the wound will heal up. I personally wouldn't cover it so the dead part can dry out and form like a scab.

You could use anything to stop the evaporation. I use the expanded clay pebbles used in hydro, but a piece of paper or cardboard cut out to the right size would work just as well I imagine.
