2nd attempt is way better

You got a lot of wasted headspace in that box from those pics. Hmmmm.

My take on it: If you're switching to a HID light (even with supplimental lighting) you should just let your plants grow straight and true. Less energy wasted recovering from being tied down will equal faster bud times and quicker harvests.

If you're sticking with the CFLs, then keep LSTing and bring your ceiling way, way down. CFLs don't have the canopy penetration needed to grow a plant straight up (unless it's like < 1 foot tall, and even then your lower buds will be popcorn) without the proper knowledge.

Hard to judge someone else's situation. Find what works and get comfortable with it.

With the perpetual SOG thing, I suggest you head over to the ICMag forums and search out posts from a user named DrBudGreengenes (mght be Greenjeans like the pants, but don't think so). That guy is a guru of growing perpetual SOGs in tight spaces under CFLs. He blows some HID growers out of the water with his knowledge (and makes them all butthurt in the process which is fun to watch). I think I've just contridicted my earlier paragraph.

Here's a little tidbit from him that you may have heard out of me: "rootbound is just a state of mind". And it's really true if you understand what he means.

Read, read, and read some more...but more than anything, don't let yourself get snared by "conventional wisdom" and the generally erronious thinking of the masses.

I dunno. For me, LST under CFLs is the way to go...it just feels right to me. I could prolly get better results with other methods, but I like what I'm doing and am happy with my results for the most part. Uhg....it just needs to be legal so I can grow outdoors and not have to contend with all this crap!

Looking again at those pics and maybe being able to move the lights is better for you. Seperate moving fixtures and that extra headspace. Maybe a cup of coffee and a full pipe will bring some inspiration. Or maybe I'll totally forget to come back and post more...

thanks budweaver i feel you on what your saying on letting them grow straight up the reason these are tyed down is they were the clones i used for sexing my mothers and i started them in a rubbermaid and was cramped for head room when i start my perpetual sog they will be growing straight up in 2 liter coke bottles that is why i was thinking that i would be better of with the hps instead of the cfls due to the fact that my plants will be at different heights and the hid willpenetrate better. thanks for all of your input and please keep posting i have found your info very useful and thanks again my friend.

if thats tin foil. it will not help man. get mylar or something... tin foil creates hot spots of the plant and can burn it easily

ok guys im still havin a problem with the cloning i cant seem to get my clones to root in a timely manner. ok so if youve been following the grow you will see that i have made a bubbler cloner and also have used jiffy pellets. i have yet to get the bubbler cloner to work. i have had minimul sucess with the jiffy pellets but it takes like two weeks to get roots then the clones are growing very slowly. i am using a heating pad when doing both methods and am not understanding what i am doing wrong. the only thing that i can find lots of threads in is not to take cuttings from mothers that have high nitrogen levels in the soil. so i am wondering could this be effecting my clones because i water with nutes every other watering. i have feed three straight waterings with straight water and no nutes and am wondering when i should consider being safe to take clones that will root much faster. preferebly in 6 to 9 days. also when i take my clones they stay green the whole way through but they just dont grow roots.

anyway here is a lil picture of cherry and a dollar bill to compare size

I am not a master cloner.

What I do know:

Take clones of a decent length to work with (a couple of inches at least), make sure they have a good, solid stem and cut it from the mother close to the trunk. Get the end of the cutting under water ASAP and continue working underwater to prevent air bubbles in the stem. Now, find the lowest budsite on your clone. Remove the shade leaf. Remove most of the bud (these are the cells that will most easily turn to roots). Cut the stem just below this removed material at a 45 degree angle. Some people say to scrape the outter skin away around the cut area. Dip in your favorite rooting product if you use one and get into whatever your cloning medium is. Using a bubbler, you need to make sure the cut end isn't actually in water, but is just above the surface in that fine mist where the bubbles pop. Remove excess leaves and leaf tips so the cutting isn't wasting energy keeping that stuff alive. Don't over-do the light they get. I wouldn't mist the leaves unless your grow area is especially dry and you see the cutting is wilting badly. Yellowing is normal and generally means the roots are starting. Don't get impatient and check the roots every day.

Extremely crappy new pics up in my "New Grow" journal. Some flowering, some re-vegging and a couple new seeds I just started.

bud weaver my friend i think you just fixed another problem for me. i have been keeping the cuts and steams under water in the bubble cloner i will move them up today and see if that makes a difference. i never thought about not submerging them completely i guess i just over looked that possibility. thanks again

Throwing a HI at my man nitro. How's it growing, bro? Threw some pics up in my New Grow, some of them of seedlings a couple weeks old that have been LST'd. About to make some Oatmeal Raisin cookies with some cannabutter I made from my trim last night and it got me to wondering what other folks like to do with their "garden waste". I just started a compost heap a couple weeks ago, so all my used up vegetable matter has been going into there for next year's gardens. Big all organic raised bed veggie garden for next season, I can't wait.

Hope you're safe and the girls are getting fat.

thanks for stoppin by budweaver ive been a lil discouraged lately as i cant get these fucking clones to root worth a shit and its really fucking up my plans if you know what i mean. but over this past weekend i came across a 150 watt hps security light and i have turned it into a remote ballast and got it hung in the cab today. the clones in the bubbler all died no roots:( i also took another round of 12 clones last wednesday and none have rooted yet i put these in peat pellets i took another 12 this evening. im just at the point where im lookin at momma and knowing i could bud her and get lots of smoke once but i really would like to get small amounts on a reg basis. and i cannot do this without getting my cloning down pat. the clones i took this evening were all at least 4 inches long and nice and fat stems. im just at my wits end man. i really need to figure this cloning shit out.
gonna stop by your grow now bro

From what I've read, certain genetics just don't like to root clones well. It seems to be strains with a lot of indica blood in them. Why don't you try grandma's method with one clone and just stick it in a plain glass of water for a while. Are your roots getting light on them? Hmmmm...root tissue grows more during hours of dark, maybe your little ones need a 2-4 hour nap a day. I've read some cloners like to put fresh cuts in total dark for the first full 24-48 hours. Maybe try a drop or three of some Superthrive or similar product in your bubbler's water...I've also read good results from a few drops of quality Hydrogen Peroxide.

Sounds to me like you got a high maintainence girl on your hands...and we all know how much trouble they can be. Maybe look to a new mom (MILS? Mom I'd like to Smoke?)

you need to get some cubes and rooting powder or Gel. then get a big plastic dome, put them in there with some water in the bottom of the tray, and then seal it with tape so nothing gets in an out. I know it sounds weird, but trust me it works. do 20-4 for lighting, for about 2day to a week, depending. they will root.
