Ah Fuck! I stuffed up.

I just experienced a heap of really esoteric shit flowing through my consciousness.

OK, guys. Enough of me being flippant in French with ms Venus & posting music video's. I now have a serious question to pose to the cognoscente.

I generally only do one crop per year outdoors & in amended soil "out there" in the bush, but I'm considering doing indoors in coco-coir. Partially to experiment & partially to get ahead of the OD season & get plants up & running early.

Is all the faffing-about with pH, EC & watering regime actually worth the effort? I can see that there are advantages if you're going to grow the whole thing start to finish in a tightly-controlled environment, but I don't have that luxury.

I'm wondering if I can get the best of both worlds & welcome any input from folks that have tried anything like this.

OR, is it one way or the other & ne'er the twain shall meet? Doable, or a concept that's fraught with stupidity?

Edit: I guess I asking if the whole Hydro. regime is actually worth the time & effort involved.

I definitely get the best of both worlds. I grow in coco - veg outdoors - give them two weeks to settle in under hps and flip according to the moon.
What I say next is pure conjecture on my behalf but personally I think being outside from the start makes them somehow stronger / more vigorous / just happier plants. (I’m also bent af typing this reply and a little “airy-fairy”).

As for the ph’ing yes it’s a pain in the arse but I’ve not known different so I can’t really give an opinion on whether it’s worth it or not. (I never check ec - I have a pen but have always stuck to halve whatever’s on the bottle and tweak as needed).
The lowest amount I’ve yielded off one plant so far is 15oz (NH) and that plant was seriously messed up when I got it and in soil. I repotted into coco and did what I could to help her without fucking arojnd for mths like usual. Hey mate. I grow indoor in coco. Cost wise to setup for me was the thick end of $3000 for hardware not including the nutes. I guess I spend as little as 3 hours on plant/grow room maintenance per week. So for me there's very little time & effort involved.

EDIT: Some benefits of total indoor in a tent using coco....(a) reduced bug issues..still have to be cautious, (b) Forgiving medium in regards to watering etc and (c) pretty good control of your enviro. Just of the top of my head.

Ummm....I'm using 4 x 4 Gorilla tent, CMH 350W Nanolux, Phresh Silenced fan with carbon filter, misc fans inside, Flood & Drain table, 100 litre res, some fish tank pumps, air stones/air pump, various hose fitting with shut of valves and using Blue Lab Guardian to monitor EC/PPM, pH & water temp. Using Hy-Gen nutes & suppliments. Spotlight has measuring shot glasses.

However...Later this year I'm thinking of making the above a mother room & making larger room. I'm considering 4 x 8 tent with a Cali Lightworks LED with the controller. Pricey but one grow will easy stock me up for a year or 2.

Coco is a soilless medium and not hydro per say.
Id wager most outdoor growers start off with their plants indoors. Its not advisable to start outside and then bring them in for a couple reasons, one is pests and disease being transferred to the grow area and the other is most indoor people have a 6ft tent, so plant height is a concern, you are much better off with lots of smaller plants than one large one in regard to veg time and canopy penetration, although properly training like a scrog can get around this.
Might as well just use soil as its going outside into soil anyway. If using soil then there is no need to PH. If in Coco then yes you should PH. No need to EC unless ur pushing your plants- experienced indoor growers do at certain stages. I have never grown in coco but its a popular medium.
I went from a plot outdoors to back growing inside a couple years ago, I do miss the bush bashing and the nice long hikes in all sorts of weather but all in all its allot easier at home.
On the numbers side of it if u did want to think about doing the whole thing indoors one 4 x 4 x 6 tent will pull a pound fairly easily and u can do 4 harvests per year. I do a rotational perceptual avg 2.75 ozzies per plant with the optimum number of plants being 9.
Time I spend is maybe an avg 30min a day. Some days I don't look at them and I do go away for weekends.

@Upright Man - This flood/drain idea intrigues me. The way I'm thinking, the large reservoir would provide a large thermal mass inside the tent that helps to control the overall environment, as well as keeping the roots system warm in winter during the flood cycle. Am I on the right track? How often are you flooding & what kind of water temps. are you running?

That Blue Labs Guardian looks like the duck's guts (if a little exy). I take it you only replenish/re-dose the reservoir when the monitor tells you that nute levels are getting low?

Be gentle with me, I've never thought about hydro. until now.....

My tent is in a room within a larger building....and the res is outside the tent. So can't really comment on those points your asking. I've done a summer & winter grow and without an A/C etc it presents different challenges depending on your own local weather conditions. I have hot summers & freezing winters in Vic. The Flood & Drain is just easy to manage with cloth pots especially if your not able to visit your plants regularly. Just set up your pump timers for your watering schedule. If you get a decent digital timer you can set up a few programs. I just change out the res every week or two depending on the feed chart. I haven't really had to concern myself with water temp. On average during flower I flood & drain every 2 days. Can't really overwater in coco peat during flowering. The Blue Labs Guardian has alarms you can setup...but I use it just as my own guide & record the readings in a grow diary with temps & humidty readings. I use the feed chart supplied by hy-gen for coco but run a weaker mix overall; haven't had any obvious deficiencies or nute burn or shitty tasting buds so I'm not that fussed. About the only things I've had to adjust is pH down from time to time. I'm a retired engineer with a lab background so this system suits my mindset.

Ok the steps I do; Fill up say a 10 or 20 liter bucket of water at a time ( I use 10). Line the shot glasses & fill each. Add each one at a time and mix well between each shot. I use paint stirer on cordless drill. And then add the 10 liters to res. In order Coco A, then Coco B, then budlink, then Humiboosta, and finally PK and Sea Essential During flower. Others with have their own methods & choices; you'll find what works for you. I test the waste water EC so that gives me a bit of a guide as to how the plants are using nutes in water. Anyway I'm sure there's plenty of info on youtube and rollitup etc.
