I am with you on the wars, but I really don't know where we will be at by the time Biden takes over.

But I am not sure what you mean by 'excessive strengthening of the Federal arm of government.' There are a lot of things that it makes sense to be able to centralize on the federal level, and reasons to keep them state/local.

I agree, which is why I think the propaganda Trump trolls (foreign and domestic) are spamming is so dangerous. People were not ready for the mixture of politics and the Russian militarized trolls spamming every feed with the exact visuals they are most afraid of.

I fell into the trap back in the Bush years after 9/11 brought about the 24 hour mayhem filled news cycle that was chasing clickbait that got hijacked by click farms pushing the propaganda into TV airtime. Once I realized it was just the same narratives but changed about Obama, and the entire game of trolls become clear to me.

In 2016 I really was not worried about it. I thought that it was just people falling into the evangelical/racist American trolls pushing the Republicans. I didn't realize that what I was seeing in real life was a combination of data analysis, spam AI, and actual paid foreign militarized trolls who know all of us down to the districts we vote in.

It is criminal what the Republicans have left us open to.

I know it may feel that way. But can you honestly say that outside of half memories of something you might have read that seemed pretty damning at the time, that you really are confident with the things you think you know?

I suggest a experiment. Anything that you have some vague idea of. Say Nancy Pelosi. Check it on AP news, and see what you think about it now.

It is so easy to get to that defensive stance that you feel you need to defend your position, without actually doing the work to figure out if you are full of shit or not. It was something I had to overcome, and I am really happy I did.

and if they weren't so busy fixing the issues of prior administrations of GOP?- this process usually takes two years.

why do i recall this being the start of 'endless wars'?

In this post, you acknowledge that elections are all about making a choice.

I'm completely with you in wanting the US to get the hell out of it's endless wars. I have to say, however that I have very high regard for Obama. I recall that he took quite a lot of time studying the situation in Afghanistan before committing more troops and resources to that area, effectively expanding our military commitment and extending our stay. He spent months studying and meeting with advisors before setting his policy. I think he probably knows more on the subject than you or I. We've never gotten an adequate explanation but I trust that he had good reasons. I still want the US out of there.

Getting back to your earlier assertion, to say "because of Afghanistan, Republicans are the same as Democrats", still sounds very naïve considering everything that has happened under Trump.

You do know that the "same" argument is used by right wing propaganda outlets to suppress the vote for Democrats, don't you?

Which is what has got the US in these endless wars. But that was a time when the overwhelming might of the US was still believed. Desert Storm I when the other army just melts away, well even that did not work out well. It could have, if the people in charge did a few things. Retain the Iraq army to police the joint. Most of the fighters in ISIS came from the Iraq army. You take their job away and leave a vacuum, they are going to fill it.

And on and on. You can walk from commitments you made by disrupting the country by going to war with them but if you want any kind of future credibility working with someone in the future you got to stick with it. The problem was the people thought it would be easy. We know better now.

Regarding strengthening the fed, we cannot say this is not true of both sides. Trump way abused executive powers, sending in feds to Portland, Republicans making laws that basically infringe on our rights to protest, renewing the Emergency Powers granted from 9/11 for the current "war", etc etc were/are terrible. But we cannot forget that the other side also makes big brother stronger. Snowden was an Obama administration issue, and while I agree Obama did great things, they did bad as well. There are long lists of scandals and infringements that involve both sides, of which I don't know them all nor can I list them. Wikipedia has a pretty good growing list but its wikipedia.
(I know there are many things better seated at the Federal level vs state level. My feeling is that it has gone past balanced and my vote reflected that)

My trust in politicians doing what is best for Americans has been greatly tarnished. Trump didn't ruin my trust in politicians, he secured their place in being untrustworthy.

Canada is taking heat (which is also having a negative economic impact) from China for honouring it’s extradition treaty with the US, so I wouldn’t characterize the situation as “taking care of it for us”.

We would expect the US to consider Canada a partner in this case and not a political pawn, as the soon to be previous administration did.
