I'm about to take my GF over to her alcoholic brother's house to get him into detox. He's been binging since christmas.. literally. He's suspended from his place of work which just happens to be the liquor store. Big surprise. Booze in excess fuckin drives people crazy, man. How is this poison legal and the 'jane not? It's 'socially acceptable'? BS. Most of the politicians are alcies.

I gotta go but will check back soon for your thoughts and experiences.

Thanks for the view.

yeah we live in a world of ignorance. if everyone started off on cannabis, they would truly realize how bad alcohol is.

weed was the first thing I ever tried, and upon trying alcohol I instantly noticed how alcohol felt more like a poison and cannabis just felt right.

Alcohol AND cigarettes are legal.. and they're both dangerous. But we're not allowed to consume a harmless, natural plant? It's bullshit.

Thanks for the input all.

Well, just got back home. Things did NOT go so well. We got to his place and it took a lot of convincing but somehow we got him out of his house and in my car, stinkin of Crown Royal. Poor guy was bubbling the shit when we got there. So sad to see him like that. Anyway, we arrived to the withdrawl/detox center and everything seemed to be going great. He was really getting along well with the guy enrolling him and we actually believed he was going to make a real effort this time. Not so lucky. As soon as he saw where he would be sleeping (in room lined with beds full of other poor souls going through what he was about to) a switch went off and he said "fuck this" and bolted out the door. My girlfriend and I had to fuckin chase him down the street. When we got him he was trying to hail a cab to go god-knows-where. Got him back in my car and drove the hour back to his place where he cussed us out of within minutes of getting back.

So hard seeing someone you love like that. On the ride back he was saying he was gonna detox on his own blahblahblah and then go to a REAL treatment center. Not the 'crackhouse' we brought him to. He's detoxed SO many times only to start drinkin as soon as the shakes subside. This is a 42 year old man whose 65 year old parents feel the need to drop in every other day to see if he's still ALIVE. Oh man, it's so sad.

Sorry for the blabbin. Just needed to get it out there. Thanks for listenin:bigjoint:

sorry that's just ignorant.

people cough from weed because of the THC making them cough.

you don't see cig smokers coughing every hit now do you? there's a REASON for that.

I hate it when people assume it's bad for you simply because they cough or some bs. NO scientific evidence WHATSOEVER.

sorry bro but that's just such crap I can't listen to it. you're poisoning your body with alcohol and ciggs. you're only helping with weed, period.

the only damage you can possibly do to your lungs is if you're smoking some straight up UK fiberglass bud.

other than that, you're gonna be fine. and if you're turly worried about it, get a vaporizer.

Although legalization activists and many marijuana users believe smoking pot has no negative effects, scientific research indicates that marijuana use can cause many different health problems.
Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States. When smoked, it begins to effect users almost immediately and can last for one to three hours. When it is eaten in food, such as baked in brownies and cookies, the effects take longer to begin, but usually last longer.
Short-Term Effects

The short-term effects of marijuana include:
Sometimes marijuana use can also produce anxiety, fear, distrust, or panic.
Effects on the Brain

The active ingredient in marijuana, delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol or THC, acts on cannabinoid receptors on nerve cells and influences the activity of those cells. Some brain areas have many cannabinoid receptors, but other areas of the brain have few or none at all. Many cannabinoid receptors are found in the parts of the brain that influence pleasure, memory, thought, concentration, sensory and time perception, and coordinated movement.

When high doses of marijuana are used, usually when eaten in food rather than smoked, users can experience the following symptoms:
Effects on the Heart

Within a few minutes after smoking marijuana, the heart begins beating more rapidly and the blood pressure drops. Marijuana can cause the heart beat to increase by 20 to 50 beats per minute, and can increase even more if other drugs are used at the same time.
Because of the lower blood pressure and higher heart rate, researchers found that users' risk for a heart attack is four times higher within the first hour after smoking marijuana.
Effects on the Lungs

Smoking marijuana, even infrequently, can cause burning and stinging of the mouth and throat, and cause heavy coughing. Scientists have found that regular marijuana smokers can experience the same respiratory problems as tobacco smokers do, including:
Marijuana contains more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than tobacco smoke and because marijuana smokers usually inhale deeper and hold the smoke in their lungs longer than tobacco smokers, their lungs are exposed to those carcinogenic properties longer.
One study found that marijuana smokers were three times more likely to develop cancer of the head or neck than non-smokers. Many researchers believe than smoking marijuana is overall more harmful to the lungs than smoking tobacco.
Other Health Effects

Research indicates that THC impairs the body's immune system from fighting disease, which can cause a wide variety of health problems. One study found that marijuana actually inhibited the disease-preventing actions of key immune cells. Another study found that THC increased the risk of developing bacterial infections and tumors.
Effects of Exposure During Pregnancy

Several studies have found that children born to mothers who used marijuana during pregnancy exhibit some problems with neurological development. According to those studies, prenatal marijuana exposure can cause:
