Very nice smokey and thanks again for your time over at my journal. I thought you might find the twin interesting. That plus we both like stealth cabs.

Ahhhh, clones. Sweet.

I had a problem with gnats a while back, too. I was afraid to spray them but since my plants were far away from harvest at the time, I went ahead and sprayed. I had to spray many times, but they just kept coming back. I think they lay their eggs near the stem in the soil. Anyway, I finally got some sticky strips up and then sprayed again and this combination finally got rid of them.

Ya man your twins are really interesting. Plus your cabs are sweeeet. My cab is more of a cab then a stealth cab, lol. Nothing really stealth about it...hell it has a temp controller mounted to the top with a bright orange/red digital temp read-out, lol. You go the web cam in yours right? I thought about doing that..I still might

Yeah man, fuckin gnats. I thought I was rid of them but now the babies are around. Im going to get stick traps tomorrow to lay over the pot and also neem oil or similar to spray the soil until I get rid of them. They lay eggs on the soil around the stem as you said and the larvae chew on the roots in the top 1 to 3 inches and will spread down as the problem gets worse. Im going first thing in the morning..I will also put a cup of soap water in there, guess they fly in and die and probably put a beer in there as well..same idea.

Lookin' good, Smokey. It's gonna be great when all of your hard work starts paying off.
Thanks buddy :)
badass grow man you should do SCROG next i think you will enjoy it with the space you got
Hey merk, thanks for droppin by
If I use the box to flower another plant I think scrog would be smart as well. I am working on a back room in my basement, trying to get it ready to move the operations in there. I plan to have 2 rooms 2.5x4.5 ish. There is space to make the flowering room a little bigger assuming I get an HPS. There is one at menards 150 watt HPS home security light for 70 dolla. Until I get the HPS I would use 4 foot flourecents in each room and the flower room would have a ton of CLF support from everywhere. Im going to take the sockets for the cfls and make them very movable and have cfls surrounding the plant with the flouro above. Of course all in the red spectrum. Oh, the rooms are going to be rough framed and wrapped with panda film so they are air tight.

I have a backroom in my basement, I guess it was like an old canning room or something. It seems like the best place to grow because nobody would ever go in there and the door could be hid if I felt like it.
So here is my idea to turn it into 2 rooms:
Room as is:
5x7 all concrete walls, no ceiling, rickety door, glass block window, gaps leading out of the room between rafters, or floor joyces or whatever they are called.

Idea:
2 rooms both 2.5 x 5
Rough framed, wraped in panda film including floor and ceiling, air tight
Shared exhaust using nice bathroom exhaust fan in between rooms
duct ran off of the exhaust fan ran between rafters and out of the room
probably converted to 6 inch at some point and ran to a 6inch hole on the side of the chimney. The hole is already there but covered

What would you do if it was your space?
Pic of the general idea

Probably better but for now I dont have HPS..I would need one for this setup and probably bigger then the 150 watt I saw for 70...there is a 400HPS listed in the grow room setup good deals thread for 99 but its prob plus shipping, guess I will look into it but I would need to find someone to order it for me and have it sent to them...I hate ordering shit online...

So you would enter the door and there would be a roll up door in the plastic going right into the flowering room and the veg room would be on the right. Only downfall would be I could only check on the veg plants when the flowering lights are on.

Update...I guess I could probably alter it just slightly so you come into the veg room just make it like a J shape

Although it sounds like a lot of work, the first idea sounds very solid. I'm not sure I understand the second idea, so I dunno. I will say this, I use cfls cfls because I am a poor broke bastard. Once I get some good cash flow going again, I have my eye on a 400w hps. No larger, no smaller. I want to keep it cheap, but I figure that if your going to deal with the heat that comes from an HID then you might as well get something more than just 150w. I guess I'm saying I vote for the 400w hps.

Labeled the second pic
I am on a very limited budget as well. I have the money in the bank to build whatever kinda room I want...if I want to get a divorce, lol....this shit adds up quick.....but I got everything to do what I am trying to do pretty much...less the HPS and prob a little more ducting

Even more work then it sounds like actually. The room had a bunch of boxes and totes and shit on 4-3x7 shelves..wooden home made style, made by previous owner...So I had to rip that shit all out, take the boxes out of course and so far I bleached the shit out of the walls, scrubbed them good..they were nasty....next I have a concrete cleaner solution(i think it removes the old paint or it does something idk) that I will use before I paint it with that waterproof basement paint...the more expensive kind...Then the construction of the rooms inside the room can begin.....blah..so much to do

OK, I think I get it now. If I understand right, the main dif is that idea 1 has a hallway or 'dead space'. If you think your setup will be able to move enough air for idea 2 then more growing space is always good. Of course, more space will also require more light. Sounds like you have a good handle on things.

Yeah I dont have the light, so I think if I get it going soon I will go with idea 1, unless I convince the wife to let me get some good HPSage

The issue with the first design (although this is the one I'd go with, personally) would be that a 400w light will not be very effective over a 5' spread. My room is 4' long and you can see the difference with the naked eye between directly under the light and at the ends of the room. Besides, 50w per square foot is a good rule to go by for fat, dense buds with HPS so go with 2'X4' or something. You could build your rooms as shown and then section off the flower room to 2'Xwhatever you want with a curtain or piece of cardboard with reflective material on it or something.

I've been putting something together to take my grow up a notch and started actually working on it last night. I'll be posting pics of what I've been working on with my setup this afternoon when this phase of the work is done.

What do you think the optimum size for 400w based on how the light spreads? If I get the 400w HPS it will be the horizontal mount style with batwing parabolic reflector...so is 3x3 perfect or 2.5x3.5 or 2x4 like you said? I can make the room 2.5x5 like planned and then cut it down like you said...that way if I end up getting a second 400w i can run 2...gotta get the first one first, lol....so what do you think..cut it down to 2.5x3?

8 square feet is ideal for a 400 but you can get nice buds with more square footage. The best shape of your room depends a lot on your reflector and how it disperses the light. Mine is not quite square but reflects the light in a square pattern so 3X3 would be ideal for my light. I just changed my room setup and it's now 3X4 but I will be growing in a 3X3 space in the center for now and will eventually be using 28"X38" centered under the light.

The best thing you can do is get your light, hook it up and see what type of light pattern you get from the reflector. You can then use that info to decide how you want to proceed with your room. Just keep in mind that an "ideal" figure when working with HPS is 50w/square foot so 8 square feet. You don't have to stick by that figure, just use it as a guidline. There are many people that get great results with less watts per square foot and I'm sure you will to.
