Cloning from Fan Leaves

I can't believe people are still trying this. All the people before that it never worked for had no clue what they were doing? Give it up.

You know, if you could clone a $10 bill by cutting off the corner. If you keep the temp and humidity right, you'll have a dime tree in no time. I did it, but don't have a camera right now. I'll post up some pics when I get one.

†LOL† Why the fuck do people feel the need to create threads of bullshit. I didn't even read through all of it, and I'm glad I didn't. I read the first page and skipped to 52, because I knew magically, despite the fact that you can get a cam now for dirt cheap, there would be a reason there was no pictures. What motivation is it that drives someone to create a thread of complete bullshit, is it like a sick prank? "Lets see how many idiots I can get to waste there time trying this shit" I swear to any god in existence I wish I could give neg rep. Dr. Botany there is about as bad as fruit, except not as vulgar...

I remember reading seeing in a thread about a month ago, this guy had cloned a leaf and it rooted and stayed alive said it did for quite a while but he eventually killed because it didn't grow into anything, it stayed a leaf.
haha love the avataar!!

I just read all 55 pages and I have to say I feel disheartened. From the moment woomeister came in, weediscool called his bluff and wouldn't back down. So many(like flowergurls) jumped on his back, talking about how he was ignorant and acting like he was better than others. Not only was weediscool right, he had every reason to suspect that woomeister was lying from the get go. I think weediscool should be commended for trying to nip the spreading of misinformation in the bud(I made a funny) and those who didn't evaluate the situation and just said assumed weediscool had no reason to think what he did should be brought out for public shame. People like flowergurls became mute all of a sudden when it became more evident that woomeister was never going to deliver.

It's obvious when you read the whole thread from front to back.

I am actually a horticulture major at a major university and I'm not saying that woomeister is right because I have never tried leaf propagation with cannabis. There are several species of plants that can be propagated from starting with a single cell. Currently in my school there is a Dr. who is doing micro propagation with some potato plants that he had gentically altered to produce potatoes with 20% more calcium. In his lab we started with full leaves and cut them in mutiple 1cm x 1cm squares, and they rooted and developed into full potato plants. In a plant propagation lab I was in, we cut begonia leaves off the plant, made small slits in each vein and basically set it in directly on the media and kept it in a mist house. This leave produced roots and eventually started to grow into many individual plants. I wish I had taken pictures of this now so I could show everyone. I'm not sure if cannabis is something that can be propagated by leaf but I know that some species it is 100% possible to propagate multiple plants from a single leaf. It would be a good experiment for someone to try. If you don't believe that this is possible, just google "leaf propagation."

I didn't really read through this entire thread but I have gone back and read through some posts. I saw a couple people commenting on this saying that it is like reinventing the wheel and I completely agree. It may work, but I doubt it will be as fast as cloning the ways we already do. In the pictures I saw of people sticking the petiole of the leaf in medium will not work in the way leaf propagation does. The veins of the leaves have to be cut and the leave has to be layed flat on the surface of the growing medium. you can use paper clips or toothpicks to keep the leave held down against the surface of the soil. When I get my room up and going (within the week) I will try and do some leaf propagation the way I have learned and see if it is possible.

Wow. Just Wow. When I am on my death bed I will wish I had not wasted this 45 minutes and spent it doing something more productive and entertaining. I was hoping to see at least ONE PERSON successfully clone a plant from a fan leaf into a whole plant in soil. Instead of achieving my goal of seeing this done I read nothing but arguments pro and against this method and experiment. I also saw a slightly technical and scientific; a bit out of a lay persons abilities; post to clone and grow plants in agar solution with plant hormones. Even though we might understand the process of growing tissue cultures using hormones and sterile agar it DEFEATS the purpose of rooting a WHOLE fan leaf into a plant. Not only does it defeat this post about rooting whole fan leaves, it is a bit out of league for some growers who use simple tools, methods and materials with which to grow.

What a complete waste of my time... although I did smoke 3 bowls of own Sour Diesel and TrainWreck.

Funny thread.

Fan leaves have grown and fallen down to touch the media I have been using. I got callus from the leaf, I put the callus in a new cuture - it grew bigger. I have not been able to get that callus to grow shoots or roots. I have not gone out of my way to try. I doubt I will.

Asexual propigation is nothing new. It's been around for millions of years.
I never tried growing a new plant from a leaf when I have better things to do with my time.
But the author is correct that while in theory it can be done, I always say, "show me the data".
I gotta go back and see if the author ever posted pictures. I'd like to see it done. Yeah that'd be cool.
