Gerneral consensus on harvesting...wrong?

IMO, the general consensus these days is to harvest too late. Back 15-20 years ago, growers were mostly harvesting too early, and there was a push to harvest later, but in the recent few years it seems to me that the pendulum has swung too far in the opposite direction, and growers are harvesting past peak. A lot of it is up to personal preference too though. Some people like green bananas, and some like brown bananas. I like mine yellow.
Why do you hate banana bread!?

Yeah, I used a microscope for all of one grow then just moved on to actually looking at the plants.

Not all plants trichomes change colors the same way/time and other things may also cause them to change color (like handling them). But hey, everyone feel free to get squinty eyed with a loup or fidgety digital microscope if you like.

Pretty straight forward. The plant will brown and retract it's stigma and the bracts will swell. There's no chance your trichs aren't ready by then anyway, so it's never really been worth checking trichs. I've had strains go milky week 5, and not swell or retract Until week 10. Hell, I've had strains amber at week 7 covered in fresh stigma that didn't retract Until week 11.

Why would anyone priorotize trichs when there is still fresh calyx stack?

The plant will basically sterilize itself when it's ready to harvest.
