Ideas on how to achieve 90%+ voter turnout rate

If people are too lazy to look out for their own self interest, then they get what they deserve. Shouldn't have to give out prizes.

I think making election day a national holiday would have the opposite effect of what you are going for. For the most part, only people with shitty jobs work on national holidays.
There is some irony in what you said. You imply voting is looking out for a persons self interest. It can be, but isn't necessarily.

Voting for a choice of two assholes, neither of which express your wishes is not looking out for your self interests. It is wishful thinking and will not bring you what you want.

If people were allowed to look out for their self interests, non participation would be an option.

Looking out for your self interests can only happen for everyone if nonparticipation and non inclusion in the aftermath is an option for those that want it. Otherwise, those people who wish not to be included are unable to look out for their self interest..

Self interest = individual. Democracy = collective will or a default to a "lesser evil" by people that have been duped

Lysander Spooner wrote an essay on the absurdity of this, you might want to check it out. He's dead now and can't hurt you. Peace.

I would say, instead of an "I voted sticker", give peeps their choice of $100 bill, or a voucher to the vendor of their choice for a case of their favorite spirits or perhaps a 1/4 of fine top shelf herb. Maybe real gold for those who already have the other? Works for me. I vote anyway.

I thought this was an idea worth discussing here;

"You want ideas? I could, for just a billion dollars, change politics forever, and for the better, and put the country on the right track, but my idea would never be backed by Big Money because it would be political suicide for them.

my plan:

Make voting mandatory.

Give everyone the day off to vote (replace presidents day with election day)

Make voting easy, safe and secure (if you can pay your taxes online, you should be able to vote online as well)

Make it a national lottery - 1,000 American voters will win a million USD.

99% voter turnout guaranteed

republic saved from oligarchical state of plutonomy™

and USA lived happily ever after

will never happen, of course"

Coming from a thread on Reddit: "In the last 5 years, the 200 most politically active companies in the US spent $5.8 billion influencing our government with lobbying and campaign contributions. Those same companies got $4.4 trillion in taxpayer support -- earning a return of 750 times their investment."

Blowjobs. Works every time for 50% of the voters

I'm not sure how this turned into a Hobson's Choice.
What happened to "write-ins"? What about leaving the cell blank?
Just because there is a box doesn't mean it needs to be X'ed.

Have you ever voted in a Federal election, AC?

Being able to vote not to be encompassed by any of them is the option that is missing.

When that is included, Hobson dies. Until then he is laughing.

Your fantasies intrigue me. Please, tell us more.
Aside from Jewish girls with big soft titties, I'm also really into dominicanas and colombianas. I'm not such a fan of philipinas and even less so of the Thai chicks. I mean, they're ok but less adventurous and less appealing to me than those voluptuous Latinas.

Who said they shouldn't?
Who ever you claim to be quoting. See red text.

More votes = more liberal votes, fact
More illegal votes = more liberal votes, also.

Not too surprising those that don't tend to vote liberal wouldn't want more people voting..
Not surprising those that do tend to vote liberal would want more voter fraud.

Yes
How could I have a candidate in a hypothetical discussion? I don't have a candidate, so how could I care or not about his/her detractors opinions?

Yes, as I would have the same hope for every American

Welcome to the political process. That is exactly the point of having primaries and general elections
Hilary Clinton won the primary majority vote in 2008, but Obama was nominated anyway. What was the point of having primaries again?

Bill Clinton reached rock star status. Not sure the Clintons have much left to offer. Could do worse tho I suppose.

Yeah, and my name is David Chaum.
PM him if you don't believe me..better yet..@see4? can you explain our idea and how easy it would be to write the code.
im too tired to go into detail about it right now, but the gist of it is that we base all voting off social security numbers, and have a series of redundant distributed web services that track the voting record of every individual. and several anti-hack procedures can be set in place to ensure validity of votes. not very difficult to write.

Wow. So all those republicans and independents(who I'm sure would scoff at being called a progressive) are actually progressive democrats?

The country is pretty evenly split when accounting for independents.

So I'd say a progressive majority is not true at all.
you're dumb, leave the thinking and figuring to less dumb people.
