According to the MJ Garden Saver Handbook, you simply take twice as much water as your pot size and run it through the soil and allow it to drain. This leeches out excess nutrients and salts.

water your girls with plain water until it flows easy thru the drain holes for a few minutes.

another good tip about leeching or flushing is pouring the water into the pot and letting it sit for a little bit and then flushing with lots of water. this helps the first water to leech up excess salts and nutes and all that as everyone else has said.

I won't get into the debate here - we've already covered that the stuff works when used right, but has the same shortcomings as all chemical fertilizers - on the whole it's really not that healthy for your soil and your environment. We've also covered the fact that MG is owned by monsanto - quite posibly the most evil corporation ever to have existed. If you don't know anything about Monsanto I strongly suggest you read up on them, as they own the FDA, are one of the bigger opponents of MMJ(or ANYONE growing ANY plants, for that matter), and you consume their products many times daily. Before I get WAY off-topic here, let me just get to my post.
I would like to share my experience with anyone who tries to compromise between the two sides of this debate by buying the MG Organic Choice potting soil.
Believe it or not, I've had worse results with the MG Organic potting soil than the non-organic. The organic doesn't have the little balls with liquid ferts in them. The packaging states that it's derived from composted bark, sphagnum moss, and pasteurized poultry litter. Anyone familiar with organics(by the virtue that they are likely to subscribe to other "green" philosophies) probably also knows that pastuerization is a great way to oxidize any nutrients in a given product and make it far less healthy than it should be. This stuff also claims to still have the "slow release" properties of other miracle grow soils, while still being organic. When I opened the bag, I discovered exactly how it has these "slow release" properties. The "soil" was little more than finely chopped(though not THAT finely) bark mulch. MG claims that their soil is "slowly releasing" nutrients, when what is actually happening is just that this bark mixture is naturally composting over time, and making pretty much the least complete compost that I've ever known.
Anyone familiar with any organic gardening or gardening in general, imagine making a compost pile out of nothing but tree bark and chicken poo. How do you think the results will turn out? This is pretty much how well the "organic" MG potting soil performs.
I'd also be very interested in finding out a bit more about the chickens used for the chicken litter in this product. Something inside me feels that there was nothing organic at all about the way those chickens were fed and raised.
I'm very much of the opinion that well-known chemical companies who jump on the "organic" bandwagon just to make a quick buck while cutting costs and taking shortcuts here and there to satisfy the minimum requirements of being organic are the worst kind. I'd be far happier if Monsanto and MG stuck to what they did best - making chemical nutrients. at least then people will KNOW that the stuff depletes the soil and contaminates groundwater, and can choose to accept the consequences.
To recap:
Miracle Grow potting soil: A Chemical slurry that, for all of its shortcomings, gets the job done at a cheap price if used correctly.
Miracle Grow organic potting soil: Half-finished, severely deficient compost.
Do yourself a favor and buy a bag of actual compost(likely the same price) from your local garden center or lowes and mix it with the dirt you got under your feet.

good post. my only problem with what others have said is that mg kills and burns up plants or fries them. i used the mg and added fox farms and still never burned any plants. it is a cheap alternative and i am sure there are better soils for herb but it can work fine too for a cheap price.

no i added 2 fox farm bloom products in bloom along with whatever nutes were already in the mg soil and never burned one plant. i also started out my seedlings straight off in regular mg soil and never burned 1 seedling. so when i see people say it burns up plants, i wonder why it doesnt burn everyones plants.

I use MG Organic choice. I love it. But i don't introduce Big Bloom until 10-14 days... I learned the hard way.

That dude mixes one bag of MG Organic Choice Garden Soil with one bag of Pro-Mix for Containers + additional 20% perlite and amends with organic fertilizers for a plain water only mix.

i have use mg in the past it works damn good produces huge plants! huge buds ! period! but i have recently went with another prouducer called { better gro} it has made normal planets so big an strong i am 100% sure when yall see these plants you will rethink your next grow plan.

It amazes me that you have a $1400 LED closet, yet you use MG as your soil. Just ludicrous.

Use what works for you, I say. I know nothing about MG, can´t buy it here - don´t know if that is good or not.
